On the Cover:
Dendritic cells (DCs) that reside in parenchymal tissues undergo a maturation process upon encountering molecules from pathogens or damaged tissues, followed by their migration to lymph nodes. Acton et al. (p276–289) show that this motility and migration of DCs involve interaction of the C-type lectin receptor CLEC-2 on DCs with the transmembrane glycoprotein podoplanin on lymphatic endothelial cell and fibroblastic reticular cell.
The image on the cover represents primary lymph node fibroblastic reticular cells plated on a coverslip and stained to visualize podoplanin (green), vimentin (red), F-actin (yellow), and the nucleus (blue).
Micrograph by Jilian Astarita (Turley lab).
