PhD and Visiting PhD positions at McGill University for Fall 2022
“Mechanics of Architected Metamaterials & Meta-Structures”

Two PhD and Two Visiting PhD positions are available for Fall 2022 in the leading AM3L laboratory in the Bioresource Engineering Department of McGill University through the CSC scholarship application. Exceptional applicants for MSc studies will be also welcomed. The research is on the field of Multiscale Multiphysics Modelling and Mechanics of 3D Printed Architected Cellular and Smart Metamaterials. Theoretical, computational, and experimental mechanics studies will be conducted for design and analysis, multiscale modelling, and 3D printing of lightweight advanced multifunctional materials and structures. The candidates will work under the supervision of Prof. Hamid Akbarzadeh, a Canada Research Chair in Metamaterials and the Director of AM3L lab at McGill University.
Required qualifications for the position are:
(1) Bachelor and/or Master degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Civil Engineering (Structure), Aerospace Engineering (Structure), Material Engineering (Computational or Additive manufacturing) or related fields.
(2) Strong background in Computational mechanics, Multiphysics and multiscale modelling, Lightweight composites, and Smart multifunctional materials. Previous experience in finite element simulation is a must.
(3) Experience with Homogenization techniques, Nonlinear instability analysis, Active materials, 3D printing, Material functionalization, Finite element simulation, Molecular dynamics or Atomistic simulation, and Machine learning are assets.
(4) Proficiency in using commercial finite element packages such as ANSYS, COMSOL, and ABAQUS.
(5) Excellent programming skills using MATLAB and/or Python/C.
(6) Good publication records.
(7) Proficiency in English and high undergraduate and graduate GPA for admission to McGill University
