Project A (July 2018-June 2021)
Multiple postdoc positions, at least 2 Ph.D. scholarships, and a few master student scholarships are available starting July/Fall 2018, to work on various aspects of heterogeneous two-dimensional materials for defense, environmental, and healthcare applications.  Successful candidates for postdocs should have background in (1) chemistry and/or material science, and in particular, experienced in synthesizing 2D materials (such as graphene, phosphorene, Mxene, and TMDs) or in (2) Experimental and theoretical/computational nanomechanics (molecular simulation/solid mechanics).  Salary for postdoc is around 6k+ USD/month depending on experience.  Interested parties please send CV/inquiry to:

Project B (July 2018-June 2021)
One Postdoc position.  The candidate should have a PhD in Chemistry from a reputable institution and will possess expertise in materials chemistry/solid state chemistry. The candidate will possess experience with some or all of the following areas: synthetic chemistry (organic/inorganic), materials characterization (X-ray Diffraction, ssNMR, IR Spectroscopy, MS), mechanochemistry and green synthetic chemistry, crystallization, crystal engineering, supramolecular chemistry, computational materials modeling (ab initio methods, DFT, Molecular Dynamics, Monte Carlo methods, Crystal Structure Prediction and Crystal Structure Modeling).

The hired candidate will play a leading role in performing research leading to high impact publications in the broad field of materials chemistry/crystal engineering. The candidate is expected to possess strong experimental research skills and ideally some computational materials modeling experience. The position is however for an experimentalist and the post-doctoral associate is expected to spend most of the time in the laboratory, where he/she will utilize their strong expertise in synthesis (organic or inorganic substances) and materials chemistry/characterization in order to develop and validate a novel mechano-chemical method for the green synthetic functionalization and conversion of persistent organic pollutants.  Interested candidates can send a short 2 page covering letter and CV to Dr. Sharmarke Mohamed (sharmarke.mohamed@ku.ac.ae).
