The Computational Genomics group in the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology at Uppsala University (Sweden) is searching for qualified applicants who intend to pursue a Ph.D. degree in the area of Computational Genetics or Genomics. Students with a strong motivation to conduct research on topics where next-generation sequencing and high-density genotype data are used to address quantitative- and population genetics questions, are highly encouraged to submit an expression of interest. Suitable students should have an MS degree in Genetics, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and other relevant disciplines. Ideal students should have a solid academic background in genetics and preferably also experience in QTL-mapping, GWAS, analysis of next-generation sequencing data or other large-scale genomics analyses. Experience in R, Matlab, Perl, or Python is a merit.  

Excellent English communication and writing skills are desirable. Either TOEFL (or IELTS) scores are required for international applicants to be admitted as PhD students at Uppsala University. The minimum required TOEFL score is 90 (with a minimum score of 20 for writing) for the Internet-based TOEFL exam and 6.5 for the IELTS exam (with no sub-section lower than 5.5).

We will offer selected competitive students an initial 6 months contract to allow them to initiate their research and prepare them for admission to the PhD programme during the fall semester of 2018. After being admitted as PhD students, they will receive a competitive salary and benefits. Students that have secured some own funding (CSC scholarships) for their PhD studies will be considered as extra merit. The student review process will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
