Immediate Funded Ph.D. Assistantships—Texas Tech University
The Department of Industrial, Manufacturing, & Systems Engineering (IMSE) at Texas Tech University (TTU), Texas, USA is looking for highly motivated individuals to pursue doctoral degrees in Industrial Engineering with a specialization in Biomechanics and Human Factors Engineering. The fully-funded assistantships cover tuition and a competitive stipend (~$29,000 per year). Potential start dates include May 2021 (preferred), August 2021, or January 2022. Students will work in one of the following research areas and each area will be led by respective faculty members:
Area 1: Human Factors Engineering for interaction between human and smart city technologies (e.g., connected and automated vehicles, automated decision aid)
Area 2: Human Factors Engineering for human-machine interactions in the field of healthcare, oil and gas, and disaster management
Area 3: Biomechanical engineering for federally funded projects on musculoskeletal biomechanics and finite element modeling
Position requirements:
• A recent (or currently enrolled) Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical/Electrical/ Industrial/Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Kinesiology, Psychology, Human Factors or similar degrees
Preferred qualifications:
• Hands-on experience in human-related experiments, experiment design, testbed development, data analysis, and scientific paper writing
• Good oral and written communication skills in English
• Basic knowledge in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, C#, MATLAB, or R
• An interest in using applied machine learning and data mining techniques for human behavior modeling (for Area 1)
• An interest (or experience) in healthcare management, patient safety, occupational safety & health, and disaster response (for Area 2)
• Experience with OpenSim and ANSYS/ABAQUS software (for Area 3)
