the department of civil & environmental engineering at temple university invites applications for one ph.d. graduate research assistant position to pursue research in areas described below. the student will work in the bionex lab with dr. heyang (harry) yuan.

the student will develop bioprocesses to recover water and nutrients from livestock wastewater. through the project, the student will receive hands-on training in engineering and modeling of environmental biotechnology, environmental microbiology, statistics, and electrochemistry. specific techniques include bioelectrochemical systems, amplicon sequencing, omics approaches, and machine learning. more information about the ongoing research at the bionex lab can be found at https://bionex-yuan.weebly.com/.

requirements: 1) the candidate should have bs and ms degrees in engineering (environmental, biological or chemical), with a strong interest in environmental microbiology. 2) minimum gpa 3.25, gre verbal 150 & quantitative 151, tofel 85/ielts 6.5. 3) the position involves extensive fieldwork in local utilities and requires the graduate student to be able to drive vehicles and work closely with agricultural partners. 4) self-motivated candidates with good hands-on ability to finding solutions to real-world engineering problems are highly encouraged.
