博士题目大致介绍:
The PhD position is in the area of Autonomous Material Robotics. We have pioneered many techniques for multi-functionality in materials, including a combinatorial method for incorporation of actuating, sensing, energy storage, and many other functions in the same material. As we miniaturize, we won’t be able to scale down current robotics components, so the materials themselves will be able to perceive their environment, act accordingly, sometimes in a pre-programmed fashion, sometimes autonomously.
We have recently also learned to harness oil phase transitions in confined geometries to generate regular anisotropic micro- and nanoparticles, such as hexagonal, triangular, rhomboid plates, as well as octahedra, icosahedra, rods, and fibers. This has allowed us to grow static and sometimes dynamic particles from the bottom-up. These are the future of the autonomous micro- and nano-robotics, capable of being grown from the bottom-up. There are many fundamental mechanisms to be discovered in this seemingly simple system, from 2D melting and 2D crystallization, to elasto-capillary interactions, role of curvature in crystallization, and others. Both the top-down and bottom-up approaches would benefit from the student having skills in the area of polymer synthesis, and materials synthesis in general.

The work is supported by an over £1M grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) is the UK. We have extensive facilities, including frequent access to beamlines at national and international facilities. The facilities in the department include fully functioning fume hoods, various tools for droplet/emulsion preparation, spin coater, UV cross-linker, electrochemical workstations, as well as an array of analytical instruments – including rheometers, particle sizers, zeta potential, Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)s, confocal microscopes and electron microscopes:

    如果是特别着急且重要的邮件,他24-48小时内回(英国跟中国有时差)。这次申请的话,在1月31号以前收到回复说明他有兴趣,谢谢。
