phd student position in exhaust aftertreatment systems modelling
the department of mechanics and maritime sciences (m2) conducts fundamental and applied research in all modes of transport to achieve sustainable technological solutions as well as research to achieve environmentally-friendly process techniques and a sustainable energy supply. m2 holds one of sweden’s most extensive simulator centre for navigation and propulsion of ships, and world class laboratories within combustion engineering and wind tunnels. the department continuously strives to establish a cooperation between academia, industry, and society, with a strong focus on utilisation.

information about the division
the division of combustion and propulsion systems is a community of engineers and researchers closely connected to the combustion engine research centre which aims at achieving sustainable powertrain technology through excellence in research and education. the vision towards zero emissions is highlighted and a systems engineering approach is needed. the current position is aiming towards this.

the division currently has 8 senior researchers (professors, associate-, adjunct professors and post docs), 24 phd students and 5 research engineers. the division also has a well-equipped laboratory with 6 engine test cells, one hybrid test call and a spray lab with two spray chambers. the division conducts ground-breaking spray, combustion, engine and propulsion system research strongly coupling experiment and simulation. the division work together with and have a strong connection with industry, international research institutes and academia.

many of our research projects involve emissions aftertreatment and some projects are specifically devoted to bridge between detailed catalyst models to real engine data and powertrain modelling. design of experiments are used to efficiently iterate between experiments and modelling.

for further information about the combustion division, please see our web page:

information about the project
the project will be performed within cerc.  cerc is an interdisciplinary center that synthesizes basic knowledge and scientific discovery from a number of subject areas, and then applies them to industrially relevant research on combustion engines. we maintain industrial relevance via topical “reference groups” made up of representatives from swedish industry and the university (including very active participation by phd students). the reference groups meet regularly to discuss cerc research projects at the most detailed level. at a higher level, the industrial members of the cerc board ensure that the center is coordinated, balanced, and focused on genuine, longer term industrial needs.

working as a phd student requires a great deal of creativity and ability to think "outside the box". furthermore, the current project involves cooperation with industry, implying that collaborative and communicative skills will be essential. we therefore expect that you are committed to further develop your skills with regard to project management and the various forms of communication needed (orally and in writing, in meetings, at conferences, between project participants and to stakeholders).

we are offering a position as a phd student in the field of exhaust aftertreatment systems (eats) modelling. the research project aims at enabling enginering eats models for automotive emission control. this will be addressed by developing models that combines detailed chemistry (catalytic reactions) and modelling of the heat, mass and momentum transfer phenomena that causes maldistributions inside the catalyic brick.

by developing these models and associated experimental methodologies, the requirements of current and future legislations will be achievable. the methodology will enable advanced powertrain system that can reach the vision of zero local emissions.

major responsibilities
your major responsibilities as a phd student is to pursue doctoral studies. you are expected to develop scientific concepts and communicate the results of your research verbally and in writing, both in swedish and in english. your research will be supervised and you will get support by well-reputed senior researchers at the involved departments. the position generally also includes teaching on chalmers' undergraduate level or performing other duties corresponding to up to 10 percent of working hours.

position summary
the position is a full-time temporary employment limited to a maximum of 4,5 years.

qualifications
as a phd student you like to work independently as well as in a team environment and you plan and think strategically. you are creative and like to put new ideas into practice. you are careful and skilled at planning, performing and evaluate experiments. furthermore, you have a solid interest in scientific computing, and you understand and are able to handle numerical codes and experimental data efficiently and accurately. you like to work in interdisciplinary projects and you have the ability to discuss and communicate your work together with people of different backgrounds. we also believe that you are a motivated person, with a curiosity and a genuine wish to learn more and develop your skills and knowledge further in the fields of research, research communication and project management.

to qualify as a phd student, you should have a master's level degree corresponding to at least 240 higher education credits in a relevant field. the position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in swedish and english. if swedish is not your native language we will offer you swedish courses. that way, you will learn a new language, get into the community, participate in daily conversations and, after two years, participate in teaching activities in swedish.

we think that you have a background in chemical engineering and an interest in mathematical modelling and numerical methods. e.g.: chemical reaction engineering, design of experiments (doe), computing in matlab.

chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at chalmers.

our offer to you
chalmers offers a cultivating and inspiring working environment in the dynamic city of gothenburg.

    其实并不是,英语可以的,瑞典语可以后面在学,要求两年之后能承担一部分教学任务。这边学瑞典语都是免费的,而且系里面会额外出钱报班
