Postdoctoral fellowship or research assistantship in urban fluid dynamics
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship or research assistantship in urban fluid dynamics. Applicants should have a PhD or master's degree in applied mathematics, atmospheric science, mechanical engineering or physics. A strong computational background (preferably in CFD) and interest in the urban environment, atmospheric modelling or turbulence are required. The initial appointment will be for 12 months.
The successful candidate(s) will work on projects that have received funding from the Research Grants Council of Hong Kong:
1. Improving Urban Canopy Parameterisations Using Wavelets and Multiscale Modelling
2. Predicting Winds Inside Deep Urban Canopies Using Vortex Dynamics
These projects concern the application of techniques from applied mathematics and fluid dynamics to subgrid-scale parameterisations for mesoscale atmospheric models and simplified models of urban flows. Collaborators include Prof. P. Bartello (McGill University) and Mr. K.K. Hon (Hong Kong Observatory).
Applications (including a CV, contact details of two referees, and a cover letter describing research interests) should be sent to Dr. Keith Ngan (keith.ngan@cityu.edu.hk). Informal inquiries (and all communications in Chinese) may be addressed to Mr. Duan (g.duan@my.cityu.edu.hk).
