We are looking for a qualified PhD Graduate to take up a 3-year full-time Postdoctoral Research position located at the Affiliated Cancer Hospital & Institute, Guangzhou Medical University in Guangzhou, China. Being part of a Cancer Hospital with rich patient sample resources, the post-holder will be working on a clinical translational project aiming to develop a “Digital Cancer Test” based on gene expression biomarkers selected from transcriptomic data. Pattern recognition in human gene expression network to identify key biomarkers to act as "Molecular Seismometer" for translation into digital cancer prediction, early diagnosis & personalised therapeutics.
The post-holder should be a PhD graduate in the area of biosciences, with knowledge in biomedical science or molecular biology and has keen interests in big data analysis, pattern recognition, biostatistics and bioinformatics. Applications are encouraged from people who can demonstrate a strong background in quantitative transcriptomic analysis (RNA-seq, microarray) and gene regulatory analysis (quantitative PCR). Candidates with programming experience and experience with the statistical software R would be advantageous but not prerequisites. The successful applicants will have an aptitude for visualizing data, problem solving and careful statistical analysis. You must also be meticulous in data record keeping, highly careful with liquid handing and keen eye on details. You must be able to maintain tight long-distance communicate with the team leader who is based in London. There may be an opportunity for the post-holder to come to London for short-term laboratory training in 2018.
The post holder should be fluent in English (IELTS results at least 6.5) and also be able to write grant applications in Mandarin Chinese. We are seeking a highly self-motivated, enthusiastic scientist who are able to work alone as well as collaboratively, and have demonstrable evidence of effective communication of scientific ideas. The team leader will provide training to the post holder on clinical specimens handling, storage, archiving, extraction of nucleic acids, reverse transcription (RT-qPCR), multichannel pipettes liquid handling and workflow of using 384-well format qPCR instrument.
