Papers submitted to Applied Ergonomics are pre-screened and assessed prior to sending them out to reviewers. We do this with a view to understanding whether there are any problems with the paper before this stage. This process also helps us to select appropriate reviewers if the paper passes the pre-screening. The issues and potential problems we assess include whether the paper is of sufficient scientific quality, has new or interesting technical content, is acceptably written in terms of the quality of language and production, and is within the scope of Applied Ergonomics.

In the case of your submission unfortunately there are some issues with the quality of the content of your paper as follows. The manuscripts requires fairly extensive technical editing. While this can be addressed, the main issue is that the manuscript is too limited in scope for the journal to consider given the small sample size and limited conditions. The study does not really generate significant new knowledge, and the most significant exposure (repetitive bending) is fairly well understood to be a risk factor for back injuries.
