As a signatory of the San Francisco Declaration of Research Assessment (DORA), AAAS believes that individual research articles should be assessed on their own merits, rather than by a journal-based metric like the Journal Impact Factor. To ensure authors get the credit they deserve, we provide article-level metrics on each article page in Science Advances. However, we also recognize that the Impact Factor remains important to some members of the scientific community. The Impact Factor is based on two years of publication and citation data, so we expect to receive an Impact Factor in 2017, which will be based on citations in 2017 to papers published in 2015 and 2016.
