The research in Dr. Chen’s group is focused on:
1.        Development of advanced in situ techniques, including in situ TEM and in situ X-ray technologies utilizing synchrotron and bench top X-ray sources (diffraction, absorption and pair distribution function analysis, etc.),  and their application in structural characterization of nano-structured materials.
2.        Electrochemical energy conversion and storage technologies: Li and Na ion batteries, and solid state ionic conductors and electrolytes.
3.        Synthesis and characterization of novel nanostructures and nanomaterials. Design and fabrication of novel micro-scale energy devices.
The lab resides on the main campus of Georgia Tech in Atlanta. The students will have good academic training and will be doing cutting-edge research in the frontiers of energy research. The students will also have opportunities to work at the national labs in the US, including Brookhaven, Argonne, Oak Ridge and Lawrence Berkeley national labs, where the world leading synchrotron and neutron sources and electron microscopes are located.
