The crop morphology, light capture and use efficiency in response to intercropping configuration are interesting topic. The study conducted 3 year experiments with detailed measurements on yield, morphological traits, light intensity for both PAR and R:FR. However, my main concerns are:
(1)     The scientific questions are not clear in this paper, why study morphology and how to use these data.
(2)     The morphological changes of component crops in intercropping are not used to estimate light interception, and then, these results is not well connected with the objectives of overyielding and light use efficiency.
(3)     The methodology of calculating light interception fraction and amount is not clear and incorrect from my understanding or it is not clearly and correctly presented. 
(4)     Yield and dry matter were given only the average for three years. That is not enough to address the objectives. 
(5)     Terminology, definition of parameters and English are not good or not precise.

Reviewer #2: The results presented by the authors are relevant and well presented. 
However, the manuscript brings me some concerns about the quantities of maize and soybean lines used in the treatments. Why the authors decided to use two lines of corn and soybean? Would not it be applicable use amount of lines traditionally used in a seeder grain?
Nevertheless the results are interesting to be published in this journal after reviewing the considerations. 返回小木虫查看更多
