| Nutrition Support Therapy is an essential medical intervention for patients who are critically ill. A majority of clinical physicians tend to administer Enteral Nutrition(EN) to critically ill patients in their early stage as it has less risk of complications and is considered to be economic, safe and efficient. Insertion of a feeding tube is the most efficient way of administering EN, whereby the nasogastric route is the most common method. At present, there are several methods of inserting a nasogastric tube i.e. the conventional method(external measurement from tip of the nose to xiphoid process), endoscopic guided method and X-ray guided method. In recent years, with great advancement in radiology, the insertion of X-ray guided nasogastric tube after gastro-intestinal surgeries such as, intestinal fistula, late stage tumour, severe pancreatitis and etc. is considered the optimum way of providing nutrition to critically ill patients. |
