(1) O=O lying on M involving σ-π interaction between dz2 of M and π of O2 and back donation from π* of O2 to dxy/dyz of M, (2) O=O bridging on M-M site with an optimum M-M distance involving interaction between partially-filled d of M and π of O2, and (3) O=O end-on at M involving overlapping of π of O2 with dz2 of M.
