蒙特利尔大学综合理工学院 太赫兹光子学 Canada Research Chair 2022博士招生
Two PhD positions in the fields of ultra-fast terahertz data communications (6G and beyond), and real-time terahertz super-resolution imaging.
Department of Engineering Physics
Polytechnique de Montréal (Engineering School of the University of Montreal), Canada
Two PhD positions are available immediately until filled in the areas of ultra-fast Terahertz (THz) communications, and real-time THz super-resolution imaging. These positions are funded in part by the prestigious Canada Research Chair I in Ubiquitous Terahertz Photonics of Prof. Maksim Skorobogatiy. This is a multidisciplinary collaboration involving several leading international research groups specializing in charting the new frontiers in wireless communications and advanced imaging. Within these experimental projects, students will have access to the state-of-the art infrastructure that includes Time-Domain and Frequency-Domain THz spectrometry and imaging systems, THz data communication systems, as well as advanced support infrastructure for the optical waveguide and fiber fabrication that includes nano- and micro- fabrication facilities, and several specialty fiber drawing towers.
THz data communication project focuses on the development of novel integrated optics and fiber-based devices for the real-time processing of the THz data streams, as well as discovery of the novel ways of increasing the information capacity of THz wireless and fiber-assisted links. This is considered to be the next frontier in high-speed data communications. Advanced optical materials such as metamaterials, plasmonic materials and photonics crystals will be used in the design of novel devices.
THz real-time super-resolution imaging project will profit from the safe and low-loss nature of the THz waves to speed up discoveries in several fields that include medicine and diagnostics, nondestructive quality control, as well as security and defense. Sub-wavelength imaging, hyper-spectral imaging, compressive sensing, computational imaging, and real-time image acquisition modalities are in the core of the project.
Application deadline: November 1st 2021, however position will be open until filled.
Position start dates: January, May or September 2022.
Working languages: English or French.
Requirements to the candidates:
- MSc or equivalent in optics, photonics, electromagnetics or related fields.
- For non-native English of French speakers, results of the TOEFL or any other internationally recognized language tests in English or French.
Interested candidates should send their CVs by e-mail to maksim.skorobogatiy@polymtl.ca
