美国South Dakota State University博后招聘
Description
The new postdoctoral research associate (Since 2021 Summer or Fall) will work on developing microfluidic biosensor approaches for characterization of bacterial biofilms as part of the the 2D-BEST Center’s research goals. Specifically to use nanoparticle and polymer 3D printing to create mechanically and electrically robust 3D structural materials as well as 3D microfluidic devices for microbial detection and biosensing. In addition, the postdoctor is expected to focus on trans-disciplinary collaborations between scientists and engineers to drive ideas from basic concepts to agricultural and bioengineering practice for long term (2~3 years) research. The successful candidate is expected to establish a dynamic research program across the ABE department and SDSU from discovery through application relevant to the microfluidic devices.
The candidate will work closely with the core team of 2D-BEST Center, and will have access to facilities including state-of-the-art equipment such as a TEM (JEM 2100), GC- MS, HPLC- MS, nanofabrication/cleanroom facility, Biosafety (level II) Lab facilities, Surface analyzer (ASAP 2020 and ChemSorption), multiple advanced microscopes including a confocal and multiphoton microscopes, and functional genomics core facility. More importantly, a new 3D printer with a 200 nanometer resolution will be installed in Fall 2021 for microfluidic device fabrication.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in Biological engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering and/or a related field. A background in 3D printing, microfabrication, microfluidic device engineering, and a knowledge of structure-property relations of materials is necessary. Experience with fluorescent detection, electrical interfaces and sensor circuit design is a significant plus. Familiarity with high resolution 3D printer, knowledge of the chemistry of 3D printing ink preparation, microfluidic device designation and fabrication is a plus. Familiarity with characterization tools such as SEM and TEM is highly desirable.
Research areas of interest include but are not limited to: 1) Microfluidic device fabrication and characterization, 2) Microfluidics-based analyses, including definition of microbial, and microbial responsiveness to environmental stress, and interactions between hosts and microbes and surfaces of agricultural significance; 3) Microfluidics platforms for high throughput profiling (e.g. sequencing) of diverse cell types including microbes; and 4) Scalable solutions for technology translation towards advanced biosensing and bio-identification that will enhance biotechnology research in SDSU.
The expected starting date is June ~ August 2021, although an earlier start date is possible. Applicants should submit a cover letter describing their interest and suitability to the position (maximum two pages), a detailed CV, a research plan (maximum three pages), and contact information for at least three references. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
