Openings for Graduate Research Assistants at George Mason University

Graduate Research Assistant (GRAs) positions are available for well-motivated students who want to pursue PhD degrees at the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at George Mason University (GMU), Fairfax, Virginia, USA. These positions are offered by the SMART (Signal processing, Mobile Computing, Artificial intelligence Research and Technology) Lab at GMU, led by Prof. Zhi (Gerry) Tian (https://volgenau.gmu.edu/profiles/ztian1).  This group is engaged in cutting-edge research on signal processing, machine learning and wireless communications in the big-data era. Current research efforts focus on: i) distributed machine learning with robustness, sampling efficiency and communication efficiency; ii) massive MIMO and deep learning techniques for wireless 5G and autonomous systems; iii) high-dimensional signal and data analytics, compressed sensing and sparse optimization, graph signal processing, and statistical analysis of network data. Students and researchers have opportunities to explore new research topics of their interest.

GRA candidates should have excellent academic records and strong motivation to pursue fundamental research, and must meet the admission requirements of the graduate program of George Mason. GRA funding covers generous stipends and tuitions. George Mason University is located in the Greater Washington DC area, offering a dynamic academic program, outstanding cultural amenities and nationally recognized livability. GMU is an innovative, entrepreneurial institution with national distinction in a range of academic fields, and earned the very high research (R1) designation by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Mason is building an extensive program on computing and data science, and has been partnering with Amazon on many projects since it established a second headquarters in Northern Virginia. These GRA opportunities align with the university-level strategic plan.

Applicants should send an email to Prof. Tian (ztian1@gmu.edu), with his/her CV covering academic experiences, class ranking, and preferably a short statement of purpose for pursuing graduate study.
