PhD Position within Stefankiewicz research group (https://arsgroup.amu.edu.pl/)
The Stefankiewicz Group at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań is looking to recruit enthusiastic and talented PhD candidates to join our research team. The main expertise and skills of the group is preparative chemistry and organic synthesis, which we apply in to supramolecular chemistry, dynamic combinatorial chemistry and the development of new dynamic/adaptive materials. Some particular research themes we are investigating include: supramolecular catalysis, supramolecular polymers, hydrogen bonded nanocapsules or disulfide/imine cages. Close supervision by an experienced PostDocs and group leader will be provided. State-of-the-art equipment is available. The PhD project will be supervised by Professor Artur R. Stefankiewicz in Department of Chemistry and Center for Advanced Technologies (Prof. Stefankiewicz is a Director of this Center) Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland. During the PhD study, each student will have an opportunity to participate in the internship in the top European university, including Noble laureates.
The position:
The position is fully funded PhD studentships (3500 zl (6288rmb) per month) for 48 months to start in October 2021. The interviews with the Departmental panel are usually planned to take place in June/beginning of July. During your studies you will receive the training to become an excellent synthetic supramolecular chemist, gaining knowledge of organic and inorganic synthesis techniques and structural elucidation methods such as NMR, mass spec and X-ray crystallography. You will also have the opportunity to present work at conferences.
Specific requirement
1. Applicants with strong teamwork skills and a strong research track record, particularly with prior experience undertaking research or development in organic synthesis, supramolecular chemistry and spectroscopy (NMR, CD, UV-Vis, spectrofluorometer), and the desire to learn and try out new things.
2. A Master’s degree in chemistry or relevant discipline.
3. English requirement: no rigid requirement for IELTS, but require for basic communication in chemistry, literature reading, paper writing. Basic knowledge on supramolecular chemistry is highly desired.
Supervisor:
Professor Artur R. Stefankiewicz received his PhD degree in metallosupramolecular chemistry with the focus on grid-type architectures under the supervision of Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn (Noble Prize Winner) in University of Strasbourg. Then he joined the research group of Prof. Jeremy K. M. Sanders at the University of Cambridge as a Ministry of Defense research associate where he worked on molecular recognition using a dynamic combinatorial approach. In October 2014 he received scholarship from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young scientists conducting high-quality research and with impressive scientific achievements. Currently he is a Full Professor of Chemistry and Vice-Director of the Center for Advanced Technologies in Poznań. His research interests include supramolecular chemistry, physical organic chemistry, dynamic combinatorial chemistry and construction of functional nanostructures. He has published number of articles in prestigious journals such as Science, Chemical Reviews, Chemical Society Reviews, Nature Chemistry, Nature Communication, Advanced Science, Angewandte Chemie, Chemical Science, etc.
Deadline
There is no deadline, but review of applications will start on 15th of April and the position will be filled as soon as a suitable person has been found; hence you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
Enquiries:
Prof. Artur Stefankiewicz is happy to discuss informally via email/zoom any questions that prospective applicants have (ars@amu.edu.pl).
