Ñо¿·½Ïò£º Evolution of genetic networks controlling carpel and fruit patterning in angiosperms
The carpel is the female structure of the flower and a major innovation of angiosperms. Carpels provide key advantages to this plant group (better pollination, better ovule and seed protection, better seed dissemination), all linked to their huge evolutionary success.
This PhD project will be focused on the genetic networks directing carpel patterning discovered in Arabidopsis, studying their conservation of in other angiosperm species, including legumes, solanaceae, basal eudicots and rice, a monocot. The role of different transcription factors in the specification of carpel structures will be studied in these species, using genetics, molecular biology and cell biology approaches.
The project has both basic interest (carpels are fascinating products of evolution) and applied interest (there is potential to improve fertilization and therefore yield in crop species). It will be carried out at Ferrandiz Lab at IBMCP, in Valencia, Spain (check https://www.ibmcp.csic.es and https://www.ibmcp.upv.es/FerrandizLab) for more info.
If interested, please contact Cristina Ferrandiz (cferrandiz@ibmcp.upv.es) and send us a CV with full academic details
