PhD thesis position on the role of regulatory RNAs in the human pathogen Clostridium difficile
A four-year PhD thesis proposal in Life and Health sciences is open for applications for CSC - Joint doctoral program of Université Paris-Saclay and the China Scholarship Council funding from October 2021 in the laboratory “Regulatory RNAs in Clostridia” headed by Olga Soutourina, Professor in Paris-Saclay University, at the Institute for Integrative Biology of the Cell in Paris region, France.
The detailed information on the applications could be found on the Paris-Saclay University website on this link:
https://www.universite-paris-sac ... scholarship-council
Here are the steps for CSC application campaign 2021:
Step 1: The Chinese government launches communication about the program to Chinese
candidates. Chinese doctoral candidates are invited to submit an intention for application on
the dedicated server (CV submission).
Step 2: Applications from Chinese candidates on ADUM website
From December 04th, 2020 to January 04th, 2021
Chinese students must submit on the general application portal ADUM their final application
to one of the doctoral projects suggested within the framework of this doctoral program on
ADUM interface https://www.adum.fr/psaclay/ptenAPCSC?an=2020&etab=61.
Step 3 : Selection and validation; From February 01st to 23rd, 2021
Selection and final validation by the University of Paris-Saclay of a main list of
project/candidate pairs and a complementary list. This selection will be transmitted to the
CSC before February 28th, 2021.
Step 4: CSC selection of successful applicants for funding, March - April 2021
Chinese applicants submit their applications to the CSC
Review of the admissibility by the CSC.
Step 5: Selection results, May 2021
The PhD candidate will study the role of non coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in the important human enteropathogen Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile. The general objective of this project is to decipher the RNA-based control of C. difficile pathophysiology and to study in details individual ncRNAs and
their mechanisms of action. To achieve these goals, we will use genome-wide and targeted molecular biology and genetics as well as bioinformatics approaches. For realisation of this project we have selected the most relevant candidate regulatory RNAs for detailed study by the targeted
phenotypic and molecularanalysis approaches. We will focus on the ncRNAs differentially expressed in pathogenesis-related conditions. The expression profiles of selected RNAs will be investigated by Northern blot or quantitative RT-PCR under different conditions reflecting changes in the pathogenesis process. We will explore the role of selected RNAs in pathogenesis-related processes by analysing the effects of their inactivation and
overexpression on various phenotypes and potential targets. The ncRNA target identification will be performed by the combination of in silico prediction and experimental validation. The realisation of this project will lead to the identification of key players of RNA-dependent network controlling the C. difficile pathogenicity important for development of novel therapeutic strategies against this emerging enteropatogen.
Candidates must meet the selection criteria set by the Paris-Saclay University Doctoral School
and by the CSC https://apply.csc.edu.cn.
The successful candidate will have a Master Degree in microbiology or molecular biology.
We are seeking a highly motivated person with a strong background in microbiology, genetics
and molecular biology, and good previous research experience. Interests for regulatory RNAs,
pathogenesis and bioinformatics analysis, as well as team work skills and English
communication knowledge would be appreciated.
Interested candidates should contact Pr. Olga Soutourina at olga.soutourina@i2bc.parissaclay.
fr and send a Curriculum Vitae, including academic results, past research experiences
and publication/communication records, as well as a letter detailing their motivation and
interest in our project. Applicants should also provide the names and contact details for two or
three references.
