The Technische Universität, commonly referred to as TU Braunschweig, is the oldest Technische Universität [de] (comparable to an institute of technology in the American system) in Germany. It was founded in 1745 as Collegium Carolinum and is a member of TU9, an incorporated society of the most renowned and largest German institutes of technology. It is commonly ranked among the top universities for engineering in Germany.
Responsibilities
We are happy to offer possibilities to outstanding students and already host one CSC fellow.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, micro-fabrication and characterization of new intelligent sensor systems for a wide range of applications in the wider context of smart cities. Examples include sensor systems for structural health monitoring, air pollution, environmental monitoring, energy harvesting, etc. Further responsibilities will be support in grant proposal writing, publications in and the (co-)supervision of Master & Bachelor students. Occasional teaching activities in form of lectures, tutorials and equipment training is also expected.
Profile
The candidate should have a fascination with interdisciplinary, curiosity driven research and the motivation to work in a highly dynamic and international environment. She or he should have a Master degree in a relevant subject such as electronic or mechanical engineering, physics, etc. and hold interest to research focusing on micro- and nano-engineering, MEMS, the development of sensor systems, etc. A good publication record as well as hands-on experience of working in a micro- and nanotechnology cleanroom is expected. International experience and the willingness for occasional travel in-as well as outside Europe is a clear bonus. The willingness to explore valorization opportunities will also be seen as a plus.
