丹麦技术大学机械工程系招收2021年CSC攻博生。Multi-material 3D printing
The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark (DTU MEK) invites upto 2 CSC applications for 3-year PhD positions. Start date is Sept 1. 2021.
DTU in Denmark is a technical university providing internationally leading research, education, innovation and scientific advice. Our staff of 6,000 advance science and technology create innovative solutions that meet the demands of society, and our 11,200 students are being educated to address the technological challenges of the future. DTU is among the top 10 engineering universities in Europe.
The Section for Manufacturing Engineering at DTU MEK performs experimental, theoretical, and numerical research in the field of manufacturing engineering. It covers a wide range of manufacturing processes and modelling approaches, metrology at all scales, micro and nano manufacturing, and additive manufacturing.
DTU MEK will provide tuition fee and additional stipends such the CSC students total monthly compensation is 12000 dkk (law requirement), which is equivalent to 12860 RMB.
Research Field
The enabling technology is ice lithography, which is a nanoscale 3D printing method. In Europe, this method is exclusive DTU. In China, ice lithography was featured on China Daily 中国日报. In the long term, we believe that ice lithography can be used to 3D print multi-material devices with applications ranging from computer chips to brain-machine interfaces.
In fact, one concurrent project is to print the Copenhagen Implant, which can be used for artificial vision. We aim to cure the blind. Project partners are Prof. Shelley Fried at Harvard Medical School 哈佛医学院, Prof. Min Qiu at West Lake University 西湖, and Prof. Xinwei Wang at Peking University 北大 in China. The project is generously supported by the Lundbeck Foundation, and it is a part of the Obama BRAIN Initiative 奥巴马大脑项目.
The scope of this PhD project is to expand ice lithography technology for multi-material 3D printing.
Responsibilities and tasks
To take project ownership. To design, fabricate, and test the new 3D printer. This includes the below activities.
1. CAD design (Solid Works), and fabrication in collaboration with engineers and machinists.
2. 3D printer control design and implementation (National Instruments and LabVIEW/IGOR Pro), independently and in collaboration.
3. Multi-material 3D printing process design and optimization, independently.
4. 3 month academic exchange at EMPA/ETHZ in Switzerland or University of Zaragoza in Spain to further research and develop ice lithography technology.
5. Publish in high impact journals and co-author patent applications.
Qualifications
Candidates must obtain a master's degree before Sept 1st 2021.
We are looking for a bright and empathic person with a master's degree in mechanical/process/mechatronics engineering, chemical engineering, applied physics, MEMS engineering or similar.
Because of the ambitious nature of the project and project teams, we are looking for a top student with great ambitions to make a difference by cutting-edge engineering. We are looking for strong experimental skills, open-mindedness, “I can do”, and never give-up mentality.
