The Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences at the University of Macau is dedicated to enhancing interdisciplinary cognitive and brain sciences and translating discoveries into solutions for a healthy society. The Applied Linguistics, Language, and Literacy lab, ran under the supervision of Prof. Barry Lee Reynolds, is looking to recruit a PhD student to work on a research project requiring the collection of eye-tracking data. The student will work with the PI and other PhD and Master students to execute the project. The project has three main directions of inquiry: incidental vocabulary acquisition, contextual richness, and written corrective feedback. We will use experimental methods involving eye-tracking to analyze adult participants’ processing of targeted words and other AOI/ROI in connection with more traditional offline data collection methods to gain insights into the means leading to incidental vocabulary acquisition and second language writing improvements.

Qualifications:
-        Undergraduate degree from world ranked (QS World University Ranking top 400/Times Higher Education top 400) or first rate Chinese university (Double First Class/985/211)
-        Relevant Master Degree (e.g., Applied Linguistics, English Studies, Psychology, Linguistics, Psycholinguistics)
-        Knowledge of Eye-tracking research design and procedures
-        Knowledge of SPSS and proficiency in statistics / quantitative methods
-        Excellent English academic writing and communication skills
-        Good communication and team-work abilities

Preferably:
-        Knowledge of NVivo
-        Knowledge of Endnote
-        Knowledge of E-Prime
-        Knowledge of qualitative research methods
-        Knowledge of R

Duties:
-        Recruit participants
-        Design experimental stimulus
-        Collect and analyze data
-        Review literature
-        Other related research duties
