given the large influx of papers that we have experienced recently, and the resulting increased pressure on reviewers, we are now conducting a preliminary screening of the papers that we receive for publication prior to their submission for peer review. such decisions are made by the editorial staff, on some occasions after consultation with the editorial advisory panel, when it appears that papers do not meet the criteria for publication in journal of materials science & technology.  among the considerations that arise at this stage are the likelihood that the manuscript would seem of considerable interest to those working in the same area of science and the degree to which the results will stimulate new thinking in the field. in this case, while we do not question the validity of your work, i am afraid we are not persuaded that your findings represent a sufficiently striking advance to justify publication in journal of materials science & technology
