phd positions

phd1: quantum electronics. the nanosyd center at mads clausen institute in the sdu invites applications for a 3-year fully funded phd position. the phd research is centered on quantum transport in nanostructured diamond thin films. the techniques in focus are design and fabrication of diamond-based nanostructures/devices as well as ultralow-noise electrical transport measurements under extreme conditions (at low temperatures and in high magnetic fields), alongside a range of standard thin film characterization techniques.

phd2: quantum optics. the nonlinear quantum optics group in the sdu invites applications for a 3-year fully funded phd position. the project involves the realization of single-photon optical nonlinearities in a new experimental setup using ultracold ytterbium. the candidate is expected to lead the experimental realization of this novel system, including the development of all required experiment components.

important dates

for both positions, the application deadline and the expected starting date are 1 july 2019 and 1 september 2019, respectively.

job requirements

phd1: quantum electronics. candidates who have a master degree (equivalent to a danish master's degree) in a field relevant to the mentioned phd project, e.g. condensed matter physics, microelectronics, semiconductor physics, nanophotonics and so on, may seek the scholarship. preferred candidates are experienced in electron beam lithography, photolithography, focused ion beam etching and/or labview programming.

phd2: quantum optics. the applicant must have a strong background in quantum optics and atomic physics, such as a msc in physics (5+3 programme) or a bsc with one year of ms. studies (4+4 programme, i.e. be enrolled in such a master's degree programme for at least a year). if the candidate applies through the 4+4 programme, then documentation for courses corresponding to 60 ects on the master's level education must be included.

    please also note that we do not care how long your list of publications is or how good your publications are. we care about whether you have the solid background knowledge and whether you achieved what you claim mainly by yourself. we are particularly interested in candidates who did their undergraduate studies in 985 universities.

    In addition, please do not lie in your CV or Cover Letter. If your profile looks interesting to us, we will give you an online interview, i.e. sort of exam to check your background knowledge and skills.

    Please be aware that we neither care nor understand the phrases of "SCI papers", "Zone 1 paper", "Zone 2 paper", etc. We only care whether you really have the background knowledge and the skills which we require and whether you did something on your own.

    students with experience in strongly correlated states, 2d materials, semiconductor physics, nanophotonics, or general condensed matter physics are strongly encouraged to contact me for further information.

    even if you have no publications at all, it does not matter, so long as you are willing to learn and have the solid background knowledge.
