one phd position supervised by prof. hans-j¨¹rgen butt is available at the department of physics at interfaces at the max planck institute for polymer research, mainz.
the candidates will be involved in a cutting-edge erc-funded project, together with a top worldwide network of universities and scientific institutions.
the main tasks would be:
1. fabrications of superomniphobic interfaces based on polymerization, flame spray, mems and other techniques
2. use of characterization tools to study the interfacial forces and wetting phenomena
3. characterizations of the water harvesting and thermal performance at the interface

interaction with partners working in the field of thermal fluids is part of the project.

we're looking for candidates with the following characteristics:
£¨1£©academic degree (master equivalent) in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or physics
£¨2£©previous experience in chemical synthesis or surface engineering advantageous
£¨3£©interest and experience in advanced characterization techniques (xrd, sem, tem, afm)
£¨4£©scientific curiosity, team skills, self-initiative
£¨5£©good oral and written communication skills in english

£¨3£©public sector employment contract pay group e13/2 (~ 2000 € per month) for the period of phd study (3 years)
