The “Advanced Food Manufacturing and Health Laboratory” at School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, Nanyang Technological University is currently recruiting exchanged students. Applicants are expected to have basic trainings in biochemistry, microbiology, or chemical engineering, possess enthusiasm in the scientific discovery, and be interested in developing engineering solutions for real-world issues. Specific projects include but are not limited to developing sustainable urban food manufacturing systems, creating values for agricultural byproducts, manufacturing bioactive carbohydrates, and elucidating substrate-specific microbial communities. Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. degree in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Currently, he is an assistant professor at the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (SCBE) of Nanyang Technological University. Before joining SCBE, Dr. Chen gained research experience at the National Taiwan University, Academia Sinica, and Purdue University studying carbohydrate binding proteins, oligosaccharide manufacture, cereal processing, and biofuel conversion.
