If you have selected to publish your article on a subscription basis (i.e. not on a gold open access basis) we require some additional information from you. This will help ensure that we can progress your article as quickly as possible should it be accepted for publication. Please check the following:

1.        Are you or any of your co-authors affiliated to an institution which requires the deposit of a version of the article in an institutional or other repository (which might be known as a green open access policy)? The university librarian should be able to confirm this for you if you are unsure.

2.        If your university has such a policy, please check whether it is compatible with IOP Publishing’s green open access policy. For example:

Any open access policy which requires the author to deposit the Accepted Manuscript version in a non-commercial repository after 12 months (known as an ‘embargo period’) is compatible.
       
Any open access policy with an embargo period less than 12 months is not compatible.

3.        If any of the institutions’ open access policies are incompatible with our own policy, please obtain a waiver for the article from each relevant institution. Institutions allow for such waivers in their policies. Again, the university librarian should be able to confirm this for you if you are unsure.

Unfortunately, without a waiver for each relevant author, we cannot accept the article for publication, unless you choose to publish it on a gold open access basis.
