CSIRO is Australia¡¯s largest research organization, with over 5000 staff. At CSIRO Energy in Newcastle, the candidate will join the Photovoltaics Group which has a strong and experienced research team working exclusively on novel materials, device fabrication, modelling and performance. The host will provide full access to its world-class materials/fabrication facilities for solar cell fabrication and evaluation and access CSIRO¡¯s leading device chemist and physicists as mentors. The competitive advantage of the host institution for a CSC placement in perovskite solar cells includes;
• Modern, equipped laboratories with facilities for spin and drop-cast, evaporated and screen-printed devices and laser-ablation systems for design and fabrication of novel substrate architectures;
• Extensive materials handling facilities including an ultra-low dust laboratory (exclusion of >0.5¦Ìm particles) / MBraun 200 MOD Nitrogen glove box (<1ppm H2O, <1ppm O2) and ultra-low humidity (<5% RH) fabrication facilities;
• The highest, world class, standard of PV characterization facilities ¨C time-resolved and frequency based photovoltaic characterization methods to measure charge transport and lifetime, Class A solar simulators (uniformity, stability, spectrum) for solar and spectral response and efficiency, Incident-Photon-Current-Efficiency (IPCE) measurement and high spatial resolution photocurrent mapping and fluorescence mapping;
• Day-to-day access to the knowledge and experience of our internationally recognized multi-disciplinary team
• Access to additional characterization and spectroscopy systems among CSIRO¡¯s sister sites in Melbourne
During the scholarship, the student will be closely mentored by the group¡¯s leading researchers in photo physics, materials science and device physics in our Newcastle and Clayton laboratories. And the student will be access to and support for formal and informal training through internal and external courses.
