Job Description
Dr. Jian Liu's group in the School of Engineering at University of British Columbia (UBC Okanagan campus) is currently seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to work on Si anode for Li-ion battery research. The successful candidate will not only have a strong background in battery material preparation and electrochemistry but also hands-on experience in material structure engineering and surface coating. The postdoctoral fellow will join a team consisting of UBC researchers and engineers/scientists from a Canada-based renewable energy company working on high-energy-density Li-ion battery technology that become available for electric vehicle applications.
The successful candidate's primary responsibility is to accelerate Si anode development through problem-solving, innovation and creativity, including the production of ideas that are marketable and/or patentable. Specifically, the candidate will:
- Develop structure engineering and surface coating approaches for porous Si anode materials to improve the Li-ion battery performance.
- Provide innovative solutions to Si anode degradation and electrode structure design.
- Deliver clear and concise written and oral presentation of data, analysis, and internal/external reports. Prepare manuscripts for publications and present their work at national/international conferences.
- Communicate with the industrial partner to update progresses, receive guidance on new assignments, make preliminary selections on technical alternatives, and independently complete recurring assignments.
- Mentor junior students in both technical and safety matters.
- Develop new ideas for funded research and build professional reputation both inside and outside of UBC.
This candidate is expected to start as soon as possible.
Job Description
- PhD with 0 years of experience.
- Strong background in general electrochemistry and hands-on battery material research expertise.
- Excellent problem-solving skills based on thorough understanding of engineering, material science and electrochemistry principles.
- Demonstrated technical aptitude in a laboratory environment, including battery material synthesis, electrochemical testing and characterization techniques, experimental setup and operation.
- Strong analytical, task management, and technical communication skills. Good written and oral communication skills and an ability to collaborate effectively on a teaming environment
Preferred Qualifications
Prefer candidates with Ph.D. in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or other related fields from an accredited college or university. Previous academic or industrial experience in Si anode research would be a strong asset.
