JOB 1 DESCRIPTION (Scientist (ACN) – Nanophotonics Optical Characterization | Fusionopolis | Full-Time)

Efficient control of the visible light at the nanoscale dimensions is important for future display technologies and wearable photonic devices. It requires sub-diffraction nanophotonic elements which are often functionally similar but conceptually different from conventional optical elements. The field of optical nanoantennas has emerged offering the promising solutions for this problem. Most optical nanoantennas studied so far consist of plasmonic nanoparticles. The main drawback of using plasmonic structures in the VIS-NIR frequency range is their intrinsic losses which strongly degrades nanodevice and system performance. An exciting alternative solution to plasmonic nanoantennas is based on resonant high-refractive index dielectric nanoparticles is underway at the Advanced Concepts and Nanotechnology (ACN) department at IMRE/DSI. These novel low-loss resonant nanostructures can complement or even substitute plamonics for many applications.

We seek a candidate who will work on design and optical characterization of optical nanoantennas and phased nanoantenna arrays, also called metasurfaces. The goal of this work is to bring the concepts of dielectric nanoantennas and metasurfaces towards photonic device and system development level.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

    PhD in physics or engineering
    3 years of experience including PhD studies
    The candidate should be an experimentalist with a strong expertise in optical characterization techniques and have former experience with characterization of nanophotonic components
    The candidate should preferably have some previous experience in electromagnetic numerical simulations
