China Scholarship Council (CSC) project in genetic epidemiology

After the completing of the Human Genome Projects, there has been a lot of research conducted to identify genes related to cardiometabolic outcomes. However, the explained variance is relatively low, partly owing to the presence of gene-gene and gene-environment
interactions.

PhD RESEARCH TOPIC:“Gene-gene and gene-lifestyle interactions in cardiometabolic traits”

Specific Research Topics:
 Identify novel genes associated with cardiometabolic outcomes using gene-gene and
gene-lifestyle interactions.
 Provide additional insights on identified genes using metabolomics.

Methodology:
For this project, you will perform genetic epidemiological (GWAS) analyses on data from the Netherlands Epidemiology of Obesity Study (NEO; N = 6,771) and the UK Biobank (N = 500,000). Furthermore, work will be done in collaboration with the Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology (CHARGE) Consortium.
