最近有一篇文章进入了decision in process 状态，有点忐忑，就大概搜了下虫友的帖子，进行了简要梳理。
这个状态主要是Elsevier的一个状态，当然其他系统也有类似的状态。

首先，Elsevier关于这个状态的官方定义：The Editor has registered a decision in the system. The decision may need to be confirmed by the Editor-in-Chief first. The Editor will email you directly with the overall editorial decision, Editor and/or reviewer comments, and further instructions.

也就是说结果已经有了，一般是负责你的文章的associate editor 或者 area editor 或者editor board里的member给出结果（但很多时候好像是editor正在做决定？我有没有理解错？），等主编确认并且写信给你。
按照官方的说法，其实decision in process 意味着在editor in chief的手上了，这个状态不好也不坏，很难说：It's neither good nor bad: in fact, it is just a part of the usual process and does not reveal anything about the outcome of your paper. It is very normal for a paper to be under review for a few months before changing to "under editor evaluation." This means that peer review for your manuscript has been completed, and the Associate Editor (AE) is going through the reviews to arrive at a decision. However, the AE does not take the final decision: he or she just makes a recommendation to the Editor-in-chief (EiC). Once the paper goes to the EiC, the status changes to "Decision in process." The decision will be communicated to you after the EiC's approval. This is known as first decision. The outcome can be "reject," "accept," or "revise and resubmit."


其次，我查看了一些虫友的帖子，发现这个状态大概会出现在以下环节，并且可能有一定的通用规律出来，也期待大家一起讨论。

1. 在投稿后没有经过review直接进入decision in process.

这种状态下，基本应该是一个desk rejection，需要主编直接写信给你。

2. 第一轮review后进入decision in process，这时状态时长延续不等，应该是reviewer意见差异越大的耗时越长，但也不一定，说不定是editor in chief正在忙，reviewer意见不够所以重新邀请了人，或者就是editor in chief 邀请了其中的一个editor或者board里的人重新审稿，所以没写信，甚至忘记了这个任务也有可能。这个decision应该是最重要的一个decision，基本上有两个结果：revise 或者 reject。

注：以上帖子里rejection的比例比较小，可能是有很多虫友被reject后就不更新帖子了，事实上很多帖子是没下文的，很有可能就是rejection

2. 第二轮或者更后面的decision in process:

这时的状态是你修改后，有些重新送同样的reviewer之后进入decision in process, 有些是直接decision in process 的。这时总体上是继续revise或者accept的概率要高很多，特别是没有review直接进入decision in process 的。对于送reviewer再审后进入decision in process 的，尽管我搜到的帖子里只有一个是被拒的，但其实跟上一点提到的一样，存在幸存者偏差，很多被reject的可能没汇报，当然也有直接accept的。没有送reviewer的基本上都是revise或者直接accept。这个阶段的耗时相对会快一点。典型帖子如下：

第三，关于这个状态如果持续较长要不要催稿。如果这个状态时间长的话，基本上就是前面说的几个可能：主编忙，主编忘了，主编没收到足够的意见需要找人重新审，主编已经让人在审了，审完就会给你结论等等（期待大家补充）。那催不催呢？如果不急尽量不催，如果超过一个月应该可以催了：比如这个帖子的回复：https://www.editage.com/insights ... n-in-process-status

第四，关于decision的结果，尽管我们前面已经说了一些大概的概率，但实际上各种结果都还是有可能的，按照虫友的话说就是结果其实自己心里最有数。
