how to request copyright permissions -- information for you
Dear friends
Someone asked about copyright permissions. For those who do not know about this, I am just writing to explain, briefly, how to request copyright permissions.
Let's say you write a manuscript you want to publish in journal A. You want to include a picture that has been previously published in journal B and journal B owns the copyright. Then you need to request permission from journal B to include that picture in your manuscript. These are two ways to do it.
1. Go to journal B web page, find the particular paper and identify the link "Rights and Permissions" like in the image that I have attached. Then follow the instructions to receive permission. It may take several steps.
2. Go directly to the website of the Copyright Clearance Center, which is https://www.copyright.com/get-permissions/ It will take some steps to identify the journal/publication but then follow the instructions to request permission.
Note that if the article is an Open Access the procedure may be different. I will explain that some other time.
Hope this post is helpful for people that did not know about copyright permissions.
If you have comments or questions, let me know.
Best regards

Yes, I visited that section. People ask for papers all the time. I was thinking to post one or two tips there on how to find free papers (or try). Something like the information I posted here but with 2 tips. It's possible they do not know what I can say about it. It's still complicated, but there are constantly novel ways to find legally free papers.
But would like to know how to reach, so many people can read the post. I have now 37 "followers" or "listeners" but not sure if they received information about this post. Perhaps you can explain or help.
In the Literature for help Section's substeition 'Serah tips (Retrieval skills)' (link) many emuchers had shared a great many retrieval skills, skills of download free papers, but very few people would read it. Nevertheless many emuchers post topics to ask help in retrieve information in SCI or EI, access number etc.
So this forum is different from Twitter or Facebook. People aksed a quetion and then be answered immediately.
You can find your Help Index or EPI (Expert Professional Index) in certain setion.

I will take a look at the section and maybe post a tip there, see what people read. I will also visit more that section.
Yes, twitter has a hashtag called icanhazpdf , but I do not use twitter or facebook, so I do not how effective or useful that is.
Good to know about the EPI, thanks.
