Dr. Lei Zuo (https://www.me.vt.edu/zuo/) is looking for postdoc scientist to conduct research on the advanced manufacturing and materials processing for energy devices. The project will investigate laser selective sintering based additive manufacturing to build multi-functional thermoelectric generator(TEG) and multi-layer nuclear shielding materials. The task involves synthesizing and characterizing high-temperature thermoelectric material under different processing conditions, measuring thermal(thermal conductivity) , electrical(electrical conductivity, seebeck coefficient, carrier mobility...), and mechanical properties of melted parts, and modeling the physics of laser melting thermoelectric materials.

Candidates should have research experience in one or several fields listed as below, thermoelectric material fabrication, solid physics, powder metallurgy, laser sintering/melting, and strong materials characterization skills. Good communication and teamwork skills are necessary. The minimum qualification is a PhD in materials science, mechanical engineering, or similar.
