China issues Monkey stamp
China has issued its fourth set of Monkey stamps to the mark the coming New Year of the Monkey. Good wishes and family reunions are in mind.
The final layouts for this pair of stamps were chosen from nine engravings submitted by Zhao Chuan, of China's Banknote Printing and Minting Corporation, and Ma Rong, of the Stamp Printing Bureau.

"My design focuses on the Monkey's movement, especially the flowing fur. So the outline is soft rather than angular," he said.
The second stamp features two baby monkeys.
"The heads are the most splendid part. The legs are also very vivid and lively," he said.

China is a strong market for collectable postage stamps. A Golden Monkey Stamp, issued in 1980, is especially prized by collectors.
