Handling Editor: I am very pleased with this second part of what I find to be an excellent study. I feel that this is a great follow-up to their JAE paper. I, and two reviewers, have read through the paper and have only minor concerns. In addition to addressing each comment made by the reviewers please pay particular attention to comments pertaining to the statistics made by reviewer 2. I believe there may be a need to re-do certain tests, or please give a very detailed and appropriate reason why the statistics as they stand are appropriate. Also, I would suggest the authors to read and include the papers by Creel et al. 2013 The Ecology of Stress: effects of the social environment Funct. Ecol doi: 10.1111/j.1365-2435.2012.02029.x; Dantzer et al. 2013 Science 10.1126/science.1235765; and Sheriff 2015 JAE 84, 323–325.
