A general view of desorption, fundamental concepts in the chemical kinetics of desorption processes and in dynamic treatments of spatial distribution of desorbing products, recent progress in angle-resolved desorption and expected future developments are summarized. In kinetics, the activation energy and reaction order for desorption are derived. Structural information of desorption (or reaction) sites, active intermediates emitting products, and transition states are all delivered from anisotropic distributions of flux and translational and internal energies of desorbing hyperthermal products.
