In a quasi-static simulation of a forming process, the stability requirements result in very small time steps and consequently a large computational time. One possibility of avoiding the time step
problem is to speed up the analyses [4]. In the present work, however, the problem is overcome by introduction of mass scaling. Thus, the density of the aluminium is increased with a factor of 2e6. The applicability of this approach is demonstrated in Fig. 7, comparing the results from LS-DYNA with similar analyses performed with the implicit code ABAQUS [14]. As implicit formulations follow the non-linear response very closely through frequent equilibrium checks, the ABAQUS results can be considered as correct within the limitations imposed by the model
