They are shown below. You will see that although the reviewers feel that your paper has some merit, they cannot recommend publication at this stage. If you would like to prepare a revision along the lines they suggest, taking full account of or rebutting all the points made, I would be prepared to send the manuscript back to the reviewers for further comment. To submit a revision, please go to http://ees.elsevier.com/pdst/ and login as an Author. Your username is: ****** For guidelines on how to submit your revised manuscript please go the following address: http://help.elsevier.com/app/answers/detail/p/7923/a_id/91 If you need to retrieve password details, please go to: http://ees.elsevier.com/pdst/automail_query.asp NOTE: Upon submitting your revised manuscript, please upload the source files for your article. For additional details regarding acceptable file formats, please refer to the Guide for Authors at: http://www.elsevier.com/journals ... 0/guide-for-authors When submitting your revised paper, we ask that you include the following items: Response to Reviewers (mandatory) This should be a separate file labeled "Response to Reviewers" that carefully addresses, point-by-point, the issues raised in the comments appended below. You should also include a suitable rebuttal to any specific request for change that you have not made. Mention the page, paragraph, and line number of any revisions that are made. Manuscript and Figure Source Files (mandatory) We cannot accommodate PDF manuscript files for production purposes. We also ask that when submitting your revision you follow the journal formatting guidelines. Figures and tables may be embedded within the source file for the submission as long as they are of sufficient resolution for Production. For any figure that cannot be embedded within the source file (such as *.PSD Photoshop files), the original figure needs to be uploaded separately. Refer to the Guide for Authors for additional information. http://www.elsevier.com/journals ... 0/guide-for-authors On your Main Menu page is a folder entitled "Submissions Needing Revision". You will find your submission record there. Please note that this journal offers a new, free service called AudioSlides: brief, webcast-style presentations that are shown next to published articles on ScienceDirect (see also http://www.elsevier.com/audioslides). If your paper is accepted for publication, you will automatically receive an invitation to create an AudioSlides presentation. Please note that we allow 60 days for the first author revision and 30 days for any additional author revisions that are required. Yours sincerely, Tadahisa Iwata, Ph.D. Editor Polymer Degradation and Stability Reviewers' comments: Reviewer #1: The authors studied the degradation differences of PBS-based copolymers in chloroform by simulating the degradation by Pseudomonas cepacia lipase. It was demonstrated that the degradation rate of PBS-co-HS was higher than that of PBS-co-BA, and generated more oligomers as degradation products in PBS-co-HS. Molecular docking proved that saturated linear monomers can improve the hydrophobicity of the copolymer backbone, which showed the possibility to further enhance the degradation of PBS-based copolymers. This paper contains new findings on degradation of PBS-based copolymers; however, the following questions arise on this paper. 1. Chloroform is a very useful solvent in the field of organic chemistry but it has serious environmental burden. Thus, in general, chloroform is not used in industry. I think that the goal of this study is to develop chemical recycling of PBS-based copolymers. Taking it into consideration, please mention the reason why chloroform was chosen as a solvent in this study. 2. The degradation of PBS-based copolymers in chloroform was too slow as shown in Fig. 3 even using lipase to simulate the degradation. Is there any aim to perform the slow degradation? 3. Did PC lipase keep correct protein folding in chloroform? Can the proposed docking modeling of PC lipase-substrate be justified by any data or evidence? 4. PBS-co-10%HS showed the best degradability among the copolymers tested. This copolymer would be suited for chemical recycling but the material property of this copolymer is enough for practical use? I suppose that PBS-co-10%HS is too soft to use as materials. 5. In Fig. 1, NMR chart is usually shown as high magnetic field in right hand and low magnetic field in left hand. |
