Also the absorption and emission properties of a series of D-A molecules based on 4,5-diazafluoren-9-one units was studied, exhibiting solvent-dependent fluorescence and low energy bandgaps. Interestingly, a specific 2D self-assembly behaviors have been also demonstrated. The writing is well-organized. It can be publishable in Tetrahedron. Minor point: In references, the journal name should be properly abbreviated. reviewer 2 The paper of Li and co-workers describes a facile and effective method to synthesize 2,7-dibromo-4,5-diazafluoren-9-one 3 involving tandem oxidation and rearrangement reactions. Compared to the previously reported synthesis route, the reaction condition of new approach is relatively mild and the yield gets improved. Furthermore, 3 D-A compounds were prepared based on compound 3, and their spectroscopic properties and self-assembly was investigated. Thus it is potentially publishable in Tetrahedron as a full article, but certain issues must be addressed through major revision. The following is the list of a few problematic points that need to be corrected in revision: 1- Careful spell check is definitely needed since there are several errors in spelling of organic solvents, such as in Page 3, "toluene", and "dicholoroform". 2- In the discussion of Figure2 page 2, the authors stated "In contrast to compounds 5 and 7, the absorption maximum wavelength of compound 6 was red-shifted approximately 40 nm, presumably because of the improved 3- In the discussion of emission spectra page 3, the authors concluded that the emission spectra of three compounds in solid film are very weak due to the effects of heavy atoms. Here, which kind of heavy atoms do the authors refer? A further discussion is needed before this conclusion. reviewer 3 The study of structure comparison, physical properties, and self-assembly in three D-A molecules provide an interesting insight on structure-function relationship of novel conjugated small molecules. However, the manuscript is full of typos and ambiguous elucidation, which needs to be thoroughly revised by a native English speaker to be understandable. The following points are all shown as highlight in the pdf. 1) The grammatical errors need to be fixed. 2) The large amount of misspelling of words is really not appropriate in a scientific paper. The authors should be more responsible for their writing. 3) What is the reason that the authors use different solvent for reduction and oxidation during CV measurement? 4) Several sentences are not understandable. 5) Among the experimental section, the authors mentioned "appropriate temperature". This is not a description that should appear in a scientific paper. |
