Reviewers' comments: H techniques by A and F are well established for B determination. HA is routinely used for various environmental matrices. There is insufficient novelty in this MS. N-C digestion in open vessel is well established; HF is known as a more sensitive alternative (not replacement) of HA. It is known that M can be useful in optimization of experimental conditions. There is some novelty in demonstrating differences between S and U optimization. Positives: good experimental work; relevant LOD and precision; practical application to a few real samples and to 2 CRMs. Negatives: 1) Inadequate novelty. Proposed procedure is working properly but cannot repace HA as stated. 2) Irrelevant bibliography with too many references devoted to other matrices. Author should discuss problems in E and U analysis rather than general Introduction on 3 pages as presented. In many references are missing family names given by initials, say in Ref. 9, 21, 25, 30, 32. 3) Digestion involving C is rather impractical, time consuming and hazardous for routine work. Complete decomposition is claimed by silica residues would not be brought in solution anyway. Potential advantages versus R digestion are not clearly demonstrated. 4) Applications to a limited number of CRMs, only one W and one S CRM, is given. Only 4 W and 2 S samples are analyzed. 5) T is toxic reagent; there are other alternatives as prereductants. 6) Last sentence in conclusions is confusing; why is speciation analysis mentioned? Speciation problems and other A species are not addressed and discussed in this MS. 7) Fig. 4 is not informative and could be explained in text. 8) Table 1: r min-1 is usually given as rpm? Table 2: four to six significant figures are too many? 9) What is new versus preceeding paper Ref. 29? I recommend that this work be rejected for publication. |
