After graduation from a college, he was assigned to work in the South. That day he came back after his home leave. He got into a taxi at the railway station. Detecting his passenger’s accent, the driver thought it was his chance of fleecing the passenger. So he deliberately made detours. Thereupon Liu said, “Sir, you must be new here.” “Nonsense! I was born here.” “You don’t seem to be one of the natives,” said Liu, sounding incredulous. At least, you don’t know the place well.” “If so, how can I be a taxi driver?” the driver said with anger. “If you know the place, why are you taking a circuitous route when there is a short-cut?” Liu retorted. Take A Taxi Liuli is north native-born ,he was alloted to the south for work.This day he came back from home after his holiday.He got in a taxi near the railway station.The driver found his accent different ,so he drived around for more money.Then, Liuli said to him"Hi man,you came here recently?" The driver said"Why?I was born here." Liuli didn't believe him and said"It looks not right, at least you're not familiar with the roads here." Noticing his nonlocal accent, the driver thought he could profiteer, so he drove round on purpose. " Excuse me, sir, you are new to here, aren't you?" asked Li. " You are kidding me. I am a native resident." answered the driver. But Liu Li did not believe this yet. " Well, it seems you are not. At least you are not familiar with here. " " How can I drive a cab if I am unfamiliar with here?" responsed the driver angrily. " If so," asked Liu Li in reply " why are you taking the long route, since there is a shorter one? allot 一般指分配东西给某人 assign：assign sb a job/duty/task assign sb to.. eg. he has been assigned to the Asian Affairs Bureau. 所以这里用assign 好一点呵呵 一般不说this day，除非强调特定的这一天 drived－drove （粗心了吧？呵呵） you came here recently 表达不是很清楚 不如改为are you a new-comer? or are you new here? 强调询问司机是否对此地陌生。 Why?I was born here. 这句话我喜欢呵呵 It looks not right, at least you're not familiar with the roads here. How can I drive a taxi if I am not famiar with it roads 和it 前后不一致，另外right 可以去掉，或干脆换成：it seems not why do you drive along a long way instead of the short cut 习惯说drive along the street /road 继续努力哦 等着斑竹嘉奖吧！呵呵 （你也叫lisa啊？呵呵） |

cab, hack, taxi, taxicab 都表示出租车 美语英语的区别吧  下面转： 我们出门办事经常要“打的”，那你知不知道“的士（taxi）”的来历呢？ 其实，taxi 的出处颇有渊源。早在18世纪，如果一个富有的英国人想进行一次短途旅游，他往往会雇用一辆单马双轮轻便车（cabriolet）。Cabriolet一词来源于一个法语动词，意思是“跳跃”。到了19世纪，人们开始用这个单词的缩略形式“cab”来指城市中专供出租的大型马车，今天我们常说的搭乘出租车（catching a cab）就是由此而来的。 此外，那时的出租车也被称为hackneys或hacks，取自法语单词haquenee（horse，马）。时至今日，许多城市的出租车司机仍被称为hackies。 当然，天下没有免费的午餐，乘坐出租车也是要花钱的。在早些时候，出租车司机根据估计的路途距离来收取车费。但到19世纪晚期，有人发明了可自动测量车辆实际行进距离的计程器（taximeter），这个单词取自法语里的taxe （相当于英语的tariff）和metre(相当于英语的meter)。正是由于计程器的发明和应用，出租车很快就被人们称作taxicab，或简称为 taxi。 [ Last edited by lisa416 on 2006-7-1 at 22:14 ] |

Finding his foreign accent , the driver decided to cheat him and began to make a detour. Then Liuli said," Sir, are you a new coming?" The driver replied," You are kidding me, I am native." Liuli didn't believe yet, "You couldn't be, in my opinion. At least, you are ignorant here." The driver said angrily, "How could I be a driver if I was ignorant?" Liuli replied, "So why don't you take the direct path but a crook one?" |

finding 改用noticing 会不会更好一点 make a detour 强调因为躲开某障碍才绕到而行，表达绕远道用roundabout更恰当一点。这里可以说：take a roundabout route "a new coming " ？是不是想说comer呵呵 "How could I be a driver if I was ignorant?" －－"How could I be a driver if I were ignorant?" 或"How can I be a driver if I am ignorant?" crook指弯曲的形状，不如 还用roundabout route 吧呵呵 总的来说翻译的还是比较地道的 只是注意个别词汇的用法 [ Last edited by lisa416 on 2006-7-5 at 18:33 ] |
