Format needs to be consistent and should follow journal format. * See figures for minor suggestions for improvement. * The use of reduced sulfur as a measure of anoxia in lacustrine settings is limited by the availability of sulfate. Authors need to take this into consideration in their discussion. Could the differences among the sub-basins reflect the availability of sulfate as well as redox state? * Figure calls in the manuscript are not correct throughout the manuscript. * Need to consider alternatives (e.g., see Curiale) when examining the isotope record. * Support documentation for sedimentation rate needs to be provided. * As presented the term "sedimentation rate" is not correct and needs to be clarified. * Clarify why a high sedimentation rate would be associated with the formation of a deep lake.
