Each sample was a square piece of Whatman no 1 paper with a1 ¡Á 1 cm sample area defined with wax (XEROX Phaser printer) [10].Samples for each immobilization method were coded and mea-sured in random order. A 10 L of solution was needed to wet thepaper completely, if not stated otherwise this volume was used forall modifications. All solutions, if not stated differently were pre-pared in PBS pH 5.5. In case of layer-by-layer methods paper wascovered with 3 bilayers starting with anionic polymer. In the secondand third bilayer cationic polymer was mixed with Glucose oxidaseto obtain final concentration of 2.5 mg/mL (92.5 U/mL) of enzyme.In the case of subsequent methods: EDC, EDC/NHS, entrapment inammonium alginate and all encapsulation methods several batcheswith different concentration of reagents and reaction times wereprepared. Table 1 lists only the optimized conditions of aforemen-tioned methods. In case of encapsulation methods, smaller capsuleswere dispersed on sample papers with a pipette, larger capsuleswere transported manually on paper and left to dry.
