Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. All is to no purpose, said the Preacher, all the ways of man are to no purpose. 【传1:3】 人一切的劳碌,就是他在日光之下的劳碌,有什么益处呢? What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun? What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? What is a man profited by all his work which he does under the sun? 【传1:4】 一代过去,一代又来。地却永远长存。 Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever. One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. One generation goes and another comes; but the earth is for ever. 【传1:5】 日头出来,日头落下,急归所出之地。 The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises. The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. The sun comes up and the sun goes down, and goes quickly back to the place where he came up. 【传1:6】 风往南刮,又向北转,不住地旋转,而且返回转行原道。 The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course. The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits. The wind goes to the south, turning back again to the north; circling round for ever. 【传1:7】 江河都往海里流,海却不满。江河从何处流,仍归还何处。 All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again. All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. All the rivers go down to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the rivers go, there they go again. 【传1:8】 万事令人厌烦。(或作万物满有困乏)人不能说尽。眼看,看不饱,耳听,听不足。 All things are wearisome, more than one can say. The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing. All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. All things are full of weariness; man may not give their story: the eye has never enough of its seeing, or the ear of its hearing. 【传1:9】 已有的事,后必再有。已行的事,后必再行。日光之下并无新事。 What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. That which has been, is that which is to be, and that which has been done, is that which will be done, and there is no new thing under the sun. 【传1:10】 岂有一件事人能指着说,这是新的。哪知,在我们以前的世代,早已有了。 Is there anything of which one can say, 'Look! This is something new'? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. Is there anything of which men say, See, this is new? It has been in the old time which was before us. 【传1:11】 已过的世代,无人记念,将来的世代,后来的人也不记念。 There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow. There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after. There is no memory of those who have gone before, and of those who come after there will be no memory for those who are still to come after them. 【传1:12】 我传道者在耶路撒冷作过以色列的王。 I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. I, the Preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 【传1:13】 我专心用智慧寻求查究天下所作的一切事,乃知神叫世人所经练的,是极重的劳苦。 I devoted myself to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under heaven. What a heavy burden God has laid on men! And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith. And I gave my heart to searching out in wisdom all things which are done under heaven: it is a hard thing which God has put on the sons of men to do. 【传1:14】 我见日光之下所作的一切事,都是虚空,都是捕风。 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind. I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. I have seen all the works which are done under the sun; all is to no purpose, and desire for wind. 【传1:15】 弯曲的不能变直,缺少的不能足数。 What is twisted cannot be straightened; what is lacking cannot be counted. That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered. That which is bent may not be made straight, and that which is not there may not be numbered. 【传1:16】 我心里议论,说,我得了大智慧,胜过我以前在耶路撒冷的众人。而且我心中多经历智慧,和知识的事。 I thought to myself, 'Look, I have grown and increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.' I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge. I said to my heart, See, I have become great and am increased in wisdom more than any who were before me in Jerusalem--yes, my heart has seen much wisdom and knowledge. 【传1:17】 我又专心察明智慧,狂妄,和愚昧。乃知这也是捕风。 Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind. And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit. And I gave my heart to getting knowledge of wisdom, and of the ways of the foolish. And I saw that this again was desire for wind. 【传1:18】 因为多有智慧,就多有愁烦。加增知识的,就加增忧伤。 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief. For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. Because in much wisdom is much grief, and increase of knowledge is increase of sorrow. 【传2:1】 我心里说,来吧,我以喜乐试试你,你好享福。谁知,这也是虚空。 I thought in my heart, 'Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.' But that also proved to be meaningless. I said in mine heart, Go to now, I will prove thee with mirth, therefore enjoy pleasure: and, behold, this also is vanity. I said in my heart, I will give you joy for a test; so take your pleasure--but it was to no purpose. 【传2:2】 我指嬉笑说,这是狂妄。论喜乐说,有何功效呢? 'Laughter,' I said, 'is foolish. And what does pleasure accomplish?' I said of laughter, It is mad: and of mirth, What doeth it? Of laughing I said, It is foolish; and of joy--What use is it? 【传2:3】 我心里察究,如何用酒使我肉体舒畅,我心却仍以智慧引导我。又如何持住愚昧,等我看明世人,在天下一生当行何事为美。 I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly-my mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see what was worthwhile for men to do under heaven during the few days of their lives. I sought in mine heart to give myself unto wine, yet acquainting mine heart with wisdom; and to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was that good for the sons of men, which they should do under the heaven all the days of their life. I made a search with my heart to give pleasure to my flesh with wine, still guiding my heart with wisdom, and to go after foolish things, so that I might see what was good for the sons of men to do under the heavens all the days of their life. 【传2:4】 我为自己动大工程,建造房屋,栽种葡萄园, I undertook great projects: I built houses for myself and planted vineyards. I made me great works; I builded me houses; I planted me vineyards: I undertook great works, building myself houses and planting vine-gardens. 【传2:5】 修造园囿,在其中栽种各样果木树, I made gardens and parks and planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. I made me gardens and orchards, and I planted trees in them of all kind of fruits: I made myself gardens and fruit gardens, planting in them fruit-trees of all sorts. 【传2:6】 挖造水池,用以浇灌嫩小的树木。 I made reservoirs to water groves of flourishing trees. I made me pools of water, to water therewith the wood that bringeth forth trees: I made pools to give water for the woods with their young trees. 【传2:7】 我买了仆婢,也有生在家中的仆婢。又有许多牛群羊群,胜过以前在耶路撒冷众人所有的。 I bought male and female slaves and had other slaves who were born in my house. I also owned more herds and flocks than anyone in Jerusalem before me. I got me servants and maidens, and had servants born in my house; also I had great possessions of great and small cattle above all that were in Jerusalem before me: I got men-servants and women-servants, and they gave birth to sons and daughters in my house. I had great wealth of herds and flocks, more than all who were in Jerusalem before me. 【传2:8】 我又为自己积蓄金银,和君王的财宝,并各省的财宝。又得唱歌的男女,和世人所喜爱的物,并许多的妃嫔。 I amassed silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and provinces. I acquired men and women singers, and a harem as well-the delights of the heart of man. I gathered me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces: I gat me men singers and women singers, and the delights of the sons of men, as musical instruments, and that of all sorts. I got together silver and gold and the wealth of kings and of countries. I got makers of song, male and female; and the delights of the sons of men--girls of all sorts to be my brides. 【传2:9】 这样,我就日见昌盛,胜过以前在耶路撒冷的众人。我的智慧仍然存留。 I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me. In all this my wisdom stayed with me. So I was great, and increased more than all that were before me in Jerusalem: also my wisdom remained with me. And I became great; increasing more than all who had been before me in Jerusalem, and my wisdom was still with me. 【传2:10】 凡我眼所求的,我没有留下不给他的。我心所乐的,我没有禁止不享受的。因我的心为我一切所劳碌的快乐。这就是我从劳碌中所得的分。 I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor. And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour. And nothing which was desired by my eyes did I keep from them; I did not keep any joy from my heart, because my heart took pleasure in all my work, and this was my reward. 【传2:11】 后来我察看我手所经营的一切事,和我劳碌所成的功。谁知都是虚空,都是捕风,在日光之下毫无益处。 Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labour that I had laboured to do: and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. Then I saw all the works which my hands had made, and everything I had been working to do; and I saw that all was to no purpose and desire for wind, and there was no profit under the sun. 【传2:12】 我转念观看智慧,狂妄,和愚昧。在王以后而来的人,还能作什么呢?也不过行早先所行的就是了。 Then I turned my thoughts to consider wisdom, and also madness and folly. What more can the king's successor do than what has already been done? And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done. And I went again in search of wisdom and of foolish ways. What may the man do who comes after the king? The thing which he has done before. 【传2:13】 我便看出智慧胜过愚昧,如同光明胜过黑暗。 I saw that wisdom is better than folly, just as light is better than darkness. Then I saw that wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness. Then I saw that wisdom is better than foolish ways--as the light is better than the dark. 【传2:14】 智慧人的眼目光明,(光明原文作在他头上)愚昧人在黑暗里行。我却看明有一件事,这两等人都必遇见。 The wise man has eyes in his head, while the fool walks in the darkness; but I came to realize that the same fate overtakes them both. The wise man's eyes are in his head; but the fool walketh in darkness: and I myself perceived also that one event happeneth to them all. The wise man's eyes are in his head, but the foolish man goes walking in the dark; but still I saw that the same event comes to them all. 【传2:15】 我就心里说,愚昧人所遇见的,我也必遇见。我为何更有智慧呢?我心里说,这也是虚空。 Then I thought in my heart, 'The fate of the fool will overtake me also. What then do I gain by being wise?' I said in my heart, 'This too is meaningless.' Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity. Then said I in my heart: As it comes to the foolish man, so will it come to me; so why have I been wise overmuch? Then I said in my heart: This again is to no purpose. 【传2:16】 智慧人,和愚昧人一样,永远无人记念。因为日后都被忘记。可叹智慧人死亡,与愚昧人无异。 For the wise man, like the fool, will not be long remembered; in days to come both will be forgotten. Like the fool, the wise man too must die! For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool. Of the wise man, as of the foolish man, there is no memory for ever, seeing that those who now are will have gone from memory in the days to come. See how death comes to the wise as to the foolish! 【传2:17】 我所以恨恶生命,因为在日光之下所行的事我都以为烦恼。都是虚空,都是捕风。 So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit. So I was hating life, because everything under the sun was evil to me: all is to no purpose and desire for wind. 【传2:18】 我恨恶一切的劳碌,就是我在日光之下的劳碌。因为我得来的必留给我以后的人。 I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me. Yea, I hated all my labour which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me. Hate had I for all my work which I had done, because the man who comes after me will have its fruits. 【传2:19】 那人是智慧,是愚昧,谁能知道。他竟要管理我劳碌所得的,就是我在日光之下用智慧所得的。这也是虚空。 And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the work into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun. This too is meaningless. And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity. And who is to say if that man will be wise or foolish? But he will have power over all my work which I have done and in which I have been wise under the sun. This again is to no purpose. 【传2:20】 故此,我转想我在日光之下所劳碌的一切工作,心便绝望。 So my heart began to despair over all my toilsome labor under the sun. Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun. So my mind was turned to grief for all the trouble I had taken and all my wisdom under the sun. 【传2:21】 因为有人用智慧知识灵巧所劳碌得来的,却要留给未曾劳碌的人为分。这也是虚空,也是大患。 For a man may do his work with wisdom, knowledge and skill, and then he must leave all he owns to someone who has not worked for it. This too is meaningless and a great misfortune. For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil. Because there is a man whose work has been done with wisdom, with knowledge, and with an expert hand; but one who has done nothing for it will have it for his heritage. This again is to no purpose and a great evil. 【传2:22】 人在日光之下劳碌累心,在他一切的劳碌上得着什么呢? What does a man get for all the toil and anxious striving with which he labors under the sun? For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun? What does a man get for all his work, and for the weight of care with which he has done his work under the sun? 【传2:23】 因为他日日忧虑,他的劳苦成为愁烦。连夜间心也不安。这也是虚空。 All his days his work is pain and grief; even at night his mind does not rest. This too is meaningless. For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity. All his days are sorrow, and his work is full of grief. Even in the night his heart has no rest. This again is to no purpose. 【传2:24】 人莫强如吃喝,且在劳碌中享福。我看这也是出于神的手。 A man can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in his work. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God. There is nothing better for a man than taking meat and drink, and having delight in his work. This again I saw was from the hand of God. 【传2:25】 论到吃用,享福,谁能胜过我呢? for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? For who can eat, or who else can hasten hereunto, more than I? Who may take food or have pleasure without him? |

【传2:26】 神喜悦谁,就给谁智慧,知识,和喜乐。惟有罪人,神使他劳苦,叫他将所收聚的,所堆积的,归给神所喜悦的人。这也是虚空,也是捕风。 To the man who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. For God giveth to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he giveth travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit. To the man with whom he is pleased, God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy; but to the sinner he gives the work of getting goods together and storing up wealth, to give to him in whom God has pleasure. This again is to no purpose and desire for wind. 【传3:1】 凡事都有定期,天下万务都有定时。 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: For everything there is a fixed time, and a time for every business under the sun. 【传3:2】 生有时,死有时。栽种有时,拔出所栽种的,也有时。 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time for birth and a time for death; a time for planting and a time for uprooting; 【传3:3】 杀戮有时,医治有时。拆毁有时,建造有时。 a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to put to death and a time to make well; a time for pulling down and a time for building up; 【传3:4】 哭有时,笑有时。哀恸有时,跳舞有时。 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time for weeping and a time for laughing; a time for sorrow and a time for dancing; 【传3:5】 抛掷石头有时,堆聚石头有时。怀抱有时,不怀抱有时。 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain, A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to take stones away and a time to get stones together; a time for kissing and a time to keep from kissing; 【传3:6】 寻找有时,失落有时。保守有时,舍弃有时。 a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time for search and a time for loss; a time to keep and a time to give away; 【传3:7】 撕裂有时,缝补有时。静默有时,言语有时。 a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time for undoing and a time for stitching; a time for keeping quiet and a time for talk; 【传3:8】 喜爱有时,恨恶有时。争战有时,和好有时。 a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. A time for love and a time for hate; a time for war and a time for peace. 【传3:9】 这样看来,作事的人在他的劳碌上有什么益处呢? What does the worker gain from his toil? What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth? What profit has the worker in the work which he does? 【传3:10】 我见神叫世人劳苦,使他们在其中受经练。 I have seen the burden God has laid on men. I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it. I saw the work which God has put on the sons of man. 【传3:11】 神造万物,各按其时成为美好。又将永生安置在世人心里。(永生原文作永远)然而神从始至终的作为,人不能参透。 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end. He has made everything right in its time; but he has made their hearts without knowledge, so that man is unable to see the works of God, from the first to the last. 【传3:12】 我知道世人,莫强如终身喜乐行善。 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life. I am certain that there is nothing better for a man than to be glad, and to do good while life is in him. 【传3:13】 并且人人吃喝,在他一切劳碌中享福。这也是神的恩赐。 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil-this is the gift of God. And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God. And for every man to take food and drink, and have joy in all his work, is a reward from God. 【传3:14】 我知道神一切所作的,都必永存,无所增添,无所减少。神这样行,是要人在他面前存敬畏的心。 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him. I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. I am certain that whatever God does will be for ever. No addition may be made to it, nothing may be taken from it; and God has done it so that man may be in fear before him. 【传3:15】 现今的事早先就有了。将来的事早已也有了。并且神使已过的事重新再来。(或作并且神再寻回已过的事) Whatever is has already been, and what will be has been before; and God will call the past to account. That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past. Whatever is has been before, and what is to be is now; because God makes search for the things which are past. 【传3:16】 我又见日光之下,在审判之处有奸恶。在公义之处也有奸恶。 And I saw something else under the sun: In the place of judgment-wickedness was there, in the place of justice-wickedness was there. And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there. And again, I saw under the sun, in the place of the judges, that evil was there; and in the place of righteousness, that evil was there. 【传3:17】 我心里说,神必审判义人和恶人。因为在那里,各样事务,一切工作,都有定时。 I thought in my heart, 'God will bring to judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time for every deed.' I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work. I said in my heart, God will be judge of the good and of the bad; because a time for every purpose and for every work has been fixed by him. 【传3:18】 我心里说,这乃为世人的缘故,是神要试验他们,使他们觉得自己不过像兽一样。 I also thought, 'As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts. I said in my heart, It is because of the sons of men, so that God may put them to the test and that they may see themselves as beasts. 【传3:19】 因为世人遭遇的,兽也遭遇。所遭遇的都是一样。这个怎样死,那个也怎样死。气息都是一样。人不能强于兽。都是虚空。 Man's fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath ; man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless. For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. Because the fate of the sons of men and the fate of the beasts is the same. As is the death of one so is the death of the other, and all have one spirit. Man is not higher than the beasts; because all is to no purpose. |

【传3:20】 都归一处。都是出于尘土,也都归于尘土。 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. All go to one place, all are of the dust, and all will be turned to dust again. 【传3:21】 谁知道人的灵是往上升,兽的魂是下入地呢? Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?' Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? Who is certain that the spirit of the sons of men goes up to heaven, or that the spirit of the beasts goes down to the earth? 【传3:22】 故此,我见人,莫强如在他经营的事上喜乐。因为这是他的分。他身后的事,谁能使他回来得见呢? So I saw that there is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him? Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him? So I saw that there is nothing better than for a man to have joy in his work--because that is his reward. Who will make him see what will come after him? 【传4:1】 我又转念,见日光之下所行的一切欺压。看哪,受欺压的流泪,且无人安慰。欺压他们的有势力,也无人安慰他们。 Again I looked and saw all the oppression that was taking place under the sun: I saw the tears of the oppressed- and they have no comforter; power was on the side of their oppressors- and they have no comforter. So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter. And again I saw all the cruel things which are done under the sun; there was the weeping of those who have evil done to them, and they had no comforter: and from the hands of the evil-doers there went out power, but they had no comforter. 【传4:2】 因此,我赞叹那早已死的死人,胜过那还活着的活人。 And I declared that the dead, who had already died, are happier than the living, who are still alive. Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive. So my praise was for the dead who have gone to their death, more than for the living who still have life. 【传4:3】 并且我以为那未曾生的,就是未见过日光之下恶事的,比这两等人更强。 But better than both is he who has not yet been, who has not seen the evil that is done under the sun. Yea, better is he than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun. Yes, happier than the dead or the living seemed he who has not ever been, who has not seen the evil which is done under the sun. 【传4:4】 我又见人为一切的劳碌,和各样灵巧的工作,就被邻舍嫉妒。这也是虚空,也是捕风。 And I saw that all labor and all achievement spring from man's envy of his neighbor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit. And I saw that the cause of all the work and of everything which is done well was man's envy of his neighbour. This again is to no purpose and a desire for wind. 【传4:5】 愚昧人抱着手,吃自己的肉。 The fool folds his hands and ruins himself. The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh. The foolish man, folding his hands, takes the flesh of his body for food. 【传4:6】 满了一把,得享安静,强如满了两把,劳碌捕风。 Better one handful with tranquillity than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind. Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit. One hand full of rest is better than two hands full of trouble and desire for wind. 【传4:7】 我又转念,见日光之下有一件虚空的事。 Again I saw something meaningless under the sun: Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun. Then I came back, and I saw an example of what is to no purpose under the sun. 【传4:8】 有人孤单无二,无子,无兄,竟劳碌不息,眼目也不以钱财为足。他说,我劳劳碌碌,刻苦自己,不享福乐,到底是为谁呢?这也是虚空,是极重的劳苦。 There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth. 'For whom am I toiling,' he asked, 'and why am I depriving myself of enjoyment?' This too is meaningless- a miserable business! There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail. It is one who is by himself, without a second, and without son or brother; but there is no end to all his work, and he has never enough of wealth. For whom, then, am I working and keeping myself from pleasure? This again is to no purpose, and a bitter work. 【传4:9】 两个人总比一个人好,因为二人劳碌同得美好的果效。 Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their work. 【传4:10】 若是跌倒,这人可以扶起他的同伴。若是孤身跌倒,没有别人扶起他来。这人就有祸了。 If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. And if one has a fall, the other will give him a hand; but unhappy is the man who is by himself, because he has no helper. 【传4:11】 再者,二人同睡,就都暖和。一人独睡,怎能暖和呢? Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? So again, if two are sleeping together they are warm, but how may one be warm by himself? 【传4:12】 有人攻胜孤身一人,若有二人便能敌挡他。三股合成的绳子,不容易折断。 Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Advancement Is Meaningless And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. And two attacked by one would be safe, and three cords twisted together are not quickly broken. 【传4:13】 贫穷而有智慧的少年人,胜过年老不肯纳谏的愚昧王。 Better a poor but wise youth than an old but foolish king who no longer knows how to take warning. Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished. A young man who is poor and wise is better than a king who is old and foolish and will not be guided by the wisdom of others. 【传4:14】 这人是从监牢中出来作王。在他国中,生来原是贫穷的。 The youth may have come from prison to the kingship, or he may have been born in poverty within his kingdom. For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becometh poor. Because out of a prison the young man comes to be king, though by birth he was only a poor man in the kingdom. 【传4:15】 我见日光之下一切行动的活人,都随从那第二位,就是起来代替老王的少年人。 I saw that all who lived and walked under the sun followed the youth, the king's successor. I considered all the living which walk under the sun, with the second child that shall stand up in his stead. I saw all the living under the sun round the young man who was to be ruler in place of the king. 【传4:16】 他所治理的众人,就是他的百姓,多得无数。在他后来的人,尚且不喜悦他。这真是虚空,也是捕风。 There was no end to all the people who were before them. But those who came later were not pleased with the successor. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. There is no end of all the people, even of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and vexation of spirit. There was no end of all the people, of all those whose head he was, but they who come later will have no delight in him. This again is to no purpose and desire for wind. 【传5:1】 你到神的殿,要谨慎脚步。因为近前听,胜过愚昧人献祭,(或作胜过献愚昧人的祭)他们本不知道所作的是恶。 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong. Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. Put your feet down with care when you go to the house of God, for it is better to give ear than to make the burned offerings of the foolish, whose knowledge is only of doing evil. 【传5:2】 你在神面前不可冒失开口,也不可心急发言。因为神在天上,你在地下,所以你的言语要寡少。 Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few. Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few. Be not unwise with your mouth, and let not your heart be quick to say anything before God, because God is in heaven and you are on the earth--so let not the number of your words be great. 【传5:3】 事务多,就令人作梦,言语多,就显出愚昧。 As a dream comes when there are many cares, so the speech of a fool when there are many words. For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words. As a dream comes from much business, so the voice of a foolish man comes with words in great number. 【传5:4】 你向神许愿,偿还不可迟延。因他不喜悦愚昧人。所以你许的愿应当偿还。 When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. When you take an oath before God, put it quickly into effect, because he has no pleasure in the foolish; keep the oath you have taken. 【传5:5】 你许愿不还,不如不许。 It is better not to vow than to make a vow and not fulfill it. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. It is better not to take an oath than to take an oath and not keep it. |

For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God. Because much talk comes from dreams and things of no purpose. But let the fear of God be in you. 【传5:8】 你若在一省之中见穷人受欺压,并夺去公义公平的事,不要因此诧异。因有一位高过居高位的鉴察。在他们以上还有更高的。 If you see the poor oppressed in a district, and justice and rights denied, do not be surprised at such things; for one official is eyed by a higher one, and over them both are others higher still. If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they. If you see the poor under a cruel yoke, and law and right being violently overturned in a country, be not surprised, because one authority is keeping watch on another and there are higher than they. 【传5:9】 况且地的益处归众人。就是君王也受田地的供应。 The increase from the land is taken by all; the king himself profits from the fields. Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field. It is good generally for a country where the land is worked to have a king. 【传5:10】 贪爱银子的,不因得银子知足。贪爱丰富的,也不因得利益知足。这也是虚空。 Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless. He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. He who has a love for silver never has enough silver, or he who has love for wealth, enough profit. This again is to no purpose. 【传5:11】 货物增添,吃的人也增添。物主得什么益处呢?不过眼看而已。 As goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owner except to feast his eyes on them? When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes? When goods are increased, the number of those who take of them is increased; and what profit has the owner but to see them? 【传5:12】 劳碌的人,不拘吃多吃少,睡得香甜。富足人的丰满,却不容他睡觉。 The sleep of a laborer is sweet, whether he eats little or much, but the abundance of a rich man permits him no sleep. The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. The sleep of a working man is sweet, if he has little food or much; but to him who is full, sleep will not come. 【传5:13】 我见日光之下,有一宗大祸患,就是财主积存赀财,反害自己。 I have seen a grievous evil under the sun: wealth hoarded to the harm of its owner, There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt. There is a great evil which I have seen under the sun--wealth kept by the owner to be his downfall. 【传5:14】 因遭遇祸患,这些赀财就消灭。那人若生了儿子,手里也一无所有。 or wealth lost through some misfortune, so that when he has a son there is nothing left for him. But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. And I saw the destruction of his wealth by an evil chance; and when he became the father of a son he had nothing in his hand. 【传5:15】 他怎样从母胎赤身而来,也必照样赤身而去。他所劳碌得来的。手中分毫不能带去。 Naked a man comes from his mother's womb, and as he comes, so he departs. He takes nothing from his labor that he can carry in his hand. As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. As he came from his mother at birth, so does he go again; he gets from his work no reward which he may take away in his hand. 【传5:16】 他来的情形怎样,他去的情形也怎样。这也是一宗大祸患。他为风劳碌有什么益处呢? This too is a grievous evil: As a man comes, so he departs, and what does he gain, since he toils for the wind? And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind? And this again is a great evil, that in all points as he came so will he go; and what profit has he in working for the wind? 【传5:17】 并且他终身在黑暗中吃喝,多有烦恼,又有病患呕气。 All his days he eats in darkness, with great frustration, affliction and anger. All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness. All his days are in the dark, and he has much sorrow, pain, disease, and trouble. 【传5:18】 我所见为善为美的,就是人在神赐他一生的日子吃喝,享受日光之下劳碌得来的好处。因为这是他的分。 Then I realized that it is good and proper for a man to eat and drink, and to find satisfaction in his toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given him-for this is his lot. Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion. This is what I have seen: it is good and fair for a man to take meat and drink and to have joy in all his work under the sun, all the days of his life which God has given him; that is his reward. 【传5:19】 神赐人赀财丰富,使他能以吃用,能取自己的分,在他劳碌中喜乐。这乃是神的恩赐。 Moreover, when God gives any man wealth and possessions, and enables him to enjoy them, to accept his lot and be happy in his work-this is a gift of God. For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart. He will not give much thought to the days of his life; because God lets him be taken up with the joy of his heart. 【传6:1】 我见日光之下有一宗祸患,重压在人身上。 I have seen another evil under the sun, and it weighs heavily on men: There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men: There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is hard on men; 【传6:2】 就是人蒙神赐他赀财,丰富,尊荣,以致他心里所愿的一样都不缺,只是神使他不能吃用,反有外人来吃用。这是虚空,也是祸患。 God gives a man wealth, possessions and honor, so that he lacks nothing his heart desires, but God does not enable him to enjoy them, and a stranger enjoys them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil. A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honour, so that he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and it is an evil disease. A man to whom God gives money, wealth, and honour so that he has all his desires but God does not give him the power to have joy of it, and a strange man takes it. This is to no purpose and an evil disease. 【传6:3】 人若生一百个儿子,活许多岁数,以致他的年日甚多,心里却不得满享福乐,又不得埋葬。据我说,那不到期而落的胎比他倒好。 A man may have a hundred children and live many years; yet no matter how long he lives, if he cannot enjoy his prosperity and does not receive proper burial, I say that a stillborn child is better off than he. If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he. If a man has a hundred children, and his life is long so that the days of his years are great in number, but his soul takes no pleasure in good, and he is not honoured at his death; I say that a birth before its time is better than he. 【传6:4】 因为虚虚而来,暗暗而去,名字被黑暗遮蔽。 It comes without meaning, it departs in darkness, and in darkness its name is shrouded. For he cometh in with vanity, and departeth in darkness, and his name shall be covered with darkness. In wind it came and to the dark it will go, and with the dark will its name be covered. 【传6:5】 并且没有见过天日,也毫无知觉。这胎,比那人倒享安息。 Though it never saw the sun or knew anything, it has more rest than does that man- Moreover he hath not seen the sun, nor known any thing: this hath more rest than the other. Yes, it saw not the sun, and it had no knowledge; it is better with this than with the other. 【传6:6】 那人虽然活千年,再活千年,却不享福,众人岂不都归一个地方去吗? even if he lives a thousand years twice over but fails to enjoy his prosperity. Do not all go to the same place? Yea, though he live a thousand years twice told, yet hath he seen no good: do not all go to one place? And though he goes on living a thousand years twice over and does not see good, are not the two going to the same place? 【传6:7】 人的劳碌都为口腹,心里却不知足。 All man's efforts are for his mouth, yet his appetite is never satisfied. All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled. All the work of man is for his mouth, and still he has a desire for food. 【传6:8】 这样看来,智慧人比愚昧人有什么长处呢?穷人在众人面前知道如何行,有什么长处呢? What advantage has a wise man over a fool? What does a poor man gain by knowing how to conduct himself before others? For what hath the wise more than the fool? what hath the poor, that knoweth to walk before the living? What have the wise more than the foolish? and what has the poor man by walking wisely before the living? 【传6:9】 眼睛所看的,比心里妄想的倒好。这也是虚空,也是捕风。 Better what the eye sees than the roving of the appetite. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Better is the sight of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this is also vanity and vexation of spirit. What the eyes see is better than the wandering of desire. This is to no purpose and a desire for wind. 【传6:10】 先前所有的,早已起了名。并知道何为人。他也不能与那比自己力大的相争。 Whatever exists has already been named, and what man is has been known; no man can contend with one who is stronger than he. That which hath been is named already, and it is known that it is man: neither may he contend with him that is mightier than he. That which is, has been named before, and of what man is there is knowledge. He has no power against one stronger than he. 【传6:11】 加增虚浮的事既多,这与人有什么益处呢? The more the words, the less the meaning, and how does that profit anyone? Seeing there be many things that increase vanity, what is man the better? There are words without number for increasing what is to no purpose, but what is man profited by them? 【传6:12】 人一生虚度的日子,就如影儿经过。谁知道什么与他有益呢?谁能告诉他身后在日光之下有什么事呢? For who knows what is good for a man in life, during the few and meaningless days he passes through like a shadow? Who can tell him what will happen under the sun after he is gone? For who knoweth what is good for man in this life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell a man what shall be after him under the sun? Who is able to say what is good for man in life all the days of his foolish life which he goes through like a shade? who will say what is to be after him under the sun? 【传7:1】 名誉强如美好的膏油。人死的日子,胜过人生的日子。 A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth. A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth. A good name is better than oil of great price, and the day of death than the day of birth. 【传7:2】 往遭丧的家去,强如往宴乐的家去,因为死是众人的结局。活人也必将这事放在心上。 It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart. It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart. It is better to go to the house of weeping, than to go to the house of feasting; because that is the end of every man, and the living will take it to their hearts. 【传7:3】 忧愁强如喜笑,因为面带愁容,终必使心喜乐。 Sorrow is better than laughter, because a sad face is good for the heart. 【传7:5】 听智慧人的责备,强如听愚昧人的歌唱。 It is better to heed a wise man's rebuke than to listen to the song of fools. It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools. It is better to take note of the protest of the wise, than for a man to give ear to the song of the foolish. 【传7:6】 愚昧人的笑声,好像锅下烧荆棘的爆声,这也是虚空。 Like the crackling of thorns under the pot, so is the laughter of fools. This too is meaningless. For as the crackling of thorns under a pot, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity. Like the cracking of thorns under a pot, so is the laugh of a foolish man; and this again is to no purpose. 【传7:7】 勒索使智慧人变为愚妄。贿赂能败坏人的慧心。 Extortion turns a wise man into a fool, and a bribe corrupts the heart. Surely oppression maketh a wise man mad; and a gift destroyeth the heart. The wise are troubled by the ways of the cruel, and the giving of money is the destruction of the heart. 【传7:8】 事情的终局,强如事情的起头。存心忍耐的,胜过居心骄傲的。 The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. The end of a thing is better than its start, and a gentle spirit is better than pride. 【传7:9】 你不要心里急躁恼怒,因为恼怒存在愚昧人的怀中。 Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools. Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools. Be not quick to let your spirit be angry; because wrath is in the heart of the foolish. 【传7:10】 不要说,先前的日子强过如今的日子,是什么缘故呢?你这样问,不是出于智慧。 Do not say, 'Why were the old days better than these?' For it is not wise to ask such questions. Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not enquire wisely concerning this. Say not, Why were the days which have gone by better than these? Such a question comes not from wisdom. 【传7:11】 智慧和产业并好。而且见天日的人,得智慧更为有益。 Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun. Wisdom is good with an inheritance: and by it there is profit to them that see the sun. Wisdom together with a heritage is good, and a profit to those who see the sun. 【传7:12】 因为智慧护庇人,好像银钱护庇人一样。惟独智慧能保全智慧人的生命,这就是知识的益处。 Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: that wisdom preserves the life of its possessor. For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it. Wisdom keeps a man from danger even as money does; but the value of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to its owner. 【传7:13】 你要察看神的作为,因神使为曲的,谁能变为直呢? Consider what God has done: Who can straighten what he has made crooked? Consider the work of God: for who can make that straight, which he hath made crooked? Give thought to the work of God. Who will make straight what he has made bent? 【传7:14】 遇亨通的日子,你当喜乐。遭患难的日子,你当思想。因为神使这两样并列,为的是叫人查不出身后有什么事。 When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, a man cannot discover anything about his future. In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider: God also hath set the one over against the other, to the end that man should find nothing after him. In the day of wealth have joy, but in the day of evil take thought: God has put the one against the other, so that man may not be certain what will be after him. 【传7:15】 有义人行义,反致灭亡。有恶人行恶,倒享长寿。这都是我在虚度之日中所见过的。 In this meaningless life of mine I have seen both of these: a righteous man perishing in his righteousness, and a wicked man living long in his wickedness. It is good to take this in your hand and not to keep your hand from that; he who has the fear of God will be free of the two. 【传7:19】 智慧使有智慧的人,比城中十个官长更有能力。 Wisdom makes one wise man more powerful than ten rulers in a city. Wisdom strengtheneth the wise more than ten mighty men which are in the city. Wisdom makes a wise man stronger than ten rulers in a town. 【传7:20】 时常行善而不犯罪的义人,世上实在没有。 There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins. For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not. There is no man on earth of such righteousness that he does good and is free from sin all his days. 【传7:21】 人所说的一切话,你不要放在心上,恐怕听见你的仆人咒诅你。 Do not pay attention to every word people say, or you may hear your servant cursing you- Also take no heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou hear thy servant curse thee: Do not give ear to all the words which men say, for fear of hearing the curses of your servant. 【传7:22】 因为你心里知道,自己也曾屡次咒诅别人。 for you know in your heart that many times you yourself have cursed others. For oftentimes also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself likewise hast cursed others. Your heart has knowledge how frequently others have been cursed by you. 【传7:23】 我曾用智慧试验这一切事。我说,要得智慧,智慧却离我远。 All this I tested by wisdom and I said, 'I am determined to be wise'- but this was beyond me. All this have I proved by wisdom: I said, I will be wise; but it was far from me. All this I have put to the test by wisdom; I said, I will be wise, but it was far from me. 【传7:24】 万事之理离我甚远,而且最深,谁能测透呢? Whatever wisdom may be, it is far off and most profound- who can discover it? That which is far off, and exceeding deep, who can find it out? Far off is true existence, and very deep; who may have knowledge of it? 【传7:25】 我转念,一心要知道,要考察,要寻求智慧,和万事的理由。又要知道邪恶为愚昧,愚昧为狂妄。 So I turned my mind to understand, to investigate and to search out wisdom and the scheme of things and to understand the stupidity of wickedness and the madness of folly. I applied mine heart to know, and to search, and to seek out wisdom, and the reason of things, and to know the wickedness of folly, even of foolishness and madness: I gave my mind to knowledge and to searching for wisdom and the reason of things, and to the discovery that sin is foolish, and that to be foolish is to be without one's senses. 【传7:26】 我得知有等妇人,比死还苦,她的心是网罗,手是锁链。凡蒙神喜悦的人,必能躲避她。有罪的人,却被她缠住了。 I find more bitter than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare. And I find more bitter than death the woman, whose heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands: whoso pleaseth God shall escape from her; but the sinner shall be taken by her. And I saw a thing more bitter than death, even the woman whose heart is full of tricks and nets, and whose hands are as bands. Who knows the explanation of things? Wisdom brightens a man's face and changes its hard appearance. Who is like the wise man? and to whom is the sense of anything clear? A man's wisdom makes his face shining, and his hard face will be changed. 【传8:2】 我劝你遵守王的命令。既指神起誓,理当如此。 Obey the king's command, I say, because you took an oath before God. I counsel thee to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God. I say to you, Keep the king's law, from respect for the oath of God. 【传8:3】 不要急躁离开王的面前。不要固执行恶。因为他凡事都随自己的心意而行。 Do not be in a hurry to leave the king's presence. Do not stand up for a bad cause, for he will do whatever he pleases. Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleaseth him. Be not quick to go from before him. Be not fixed in an evil design, because he does whatever is pleasing to him. 【传8:4】 王的话本有权力,谁敢问他说,你作什么呢? Since a king's word is supreme, who can say to him, 'What are you doing?' Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou? All this have I seen, and have given my heart to all the work which is done under the sun: there is a time when man has power over man for his destruction. 【传8:10】 我见恶人埋葬,归入坟墓。又见行正直事的,离开圣地,在城中被人忘记。这也是虚空。 Then too, I saw the wicked buried-those who used to come and go from the holy place and receive praise in the city where they did this. This too is meaningless. And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity. And then I saw evil men put to rest, taken even from the holy place; and they went about and were praised in the town because of what they had done. This again is to no purpose. 【传8:11】 因为断定罪名,不立刻施刑,所以世人满心作恶。 When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the hearts of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong. Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Because punishment for an evil work comes not quickly, the minds of the sons of men are fully given to doing evil. 【传8:12】 罪人虽然作恶百次,倒享长久的年日。然而我准知道,敬畏神的,就是在他面前敬畏的人,终久必得福乐。 Although a wicked man commits a hundred crimes and still lives a long time, I know that it will go better with God-fearing men, who are reverent before God. Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him: Though a sinner does evil a hundred times and his life is long, I am certain that it will be well for those who go in fear of God and are in fear before him. 【传8:13】 恶人却不得福乐,也不得长久的年日。这年日好像影儿,因他不敬畏神。 Yet because the wicked do not fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not lengthen like a shadow. But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God. But it will not be well for the evil-doer; he will not make his days long like a shade, because he has no fear before God. 【传8:14】 世上有一件虚空的事,就是义人所遭遇的,反照恶人所行的。又有恶人所遭遇的,反照义人所行的。我说,这也是虚空。 There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: righteous men who get what the wicked deserve, and wicked men who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless. There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happeneth according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happeneth according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity. There is a thing which is to no purpose done on the earth: that there are good men to whom is given the same punishment as those who are evil, and there are evil men who get the reward of the good. I say that this again is to no purpose. 【传8:15】 我就称赞快乐,原来人在日光之下,莫强如吃喝快乐。因为他在日光之下,神赐他一生的年日,要从劳碌中,时常享受所得的。 So I commend the enjoyment of life, because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun. So I gave praise to joy, because there is nothing better for a man to do under the sun than to take meat and drink and be happy; for that will be with him in his work all the days of his life which God gives him under the sun. 【传8:16】 我专心求智慧,要看世上所作的事。(有昼夜不睡觉,不合眼的)。 When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe man's labor on earth-his eyes not seeing sleep day or night- When I applied mine heart to know wisdom, and to see the business that is done upon the earth: (for also there is that neither day nor night seeth sleep with his eyes ![]() When I gave my mind to the knowledge of wisdom and to seeing the business which is done on the earth (and there are those whose eyes see not sleep by day or by night), 【传8:17】 我就看明神一切的作为。知道人查不出日光之下所作的事。任凭他费多少力寻查,都查不出来。就是智慧人虽想知道,也是查不出来。 then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all his efforts to search it out, man cannot discover its meaning. Even if a wise man claims he knows, he cannot really comprehend it. Then I beheld all the work of God, that a man cannot find out the work that is done under the sun: because though a man labour to seek it out, yet he shall not find it; yea farther; though a wise man think to know it, yet shall he not be able to find it. Then I saw all the work of God, and that man may not get knowledge of the work which is done under the sun; because, if a man gives hard work to the search he will not get knowledge, and even if the wise man seems to be coming to the end of his search, still he will be without knowledge. 【传9:1】 我将这一切事放在心上,详细考究,就知道义人和智慧人,并他们的作为,都在神手中。或是爱,或是恨,都在他们的前面,人不能知道。 So I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God's hands, but no man knows whether love or hate awaits him. All this I took to heart, and my heart saw it all: that the upright and the wise and their works are in the hand of God; and men may not be certain if it will be love or hate; all is to no purpose before them. 【传9:2】 凡临到众人的事,都是一样。义人和恶人,都遭遇一样的事。好人,洁净人和不洁净人,献祭的与不献祭的,也是一样。好人如何,罪人也如何。起誓的如何,怕起誓的也如何。 All share a common destiny-the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad, the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not. As it is with the good man, so with the sinner; as it is with those who take oaths, so with those who are afraid to take them. All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrificeth, and to him that sacrificeth not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that sweareth, as he that feareth an oath. Because to all there is one event, to the upright man and to the evil, to the clean and to the unclean, to him who makes an offering and to him who makes no offering; as is the good so is the sinner; he who takes an oath is as he who has fear of it. 【传9:3】 在日光之下所行的一切事上,有一件祸患,就是众人所遭遇的,都是一样。并且世人的心,充满了恶。活着的时候心里狂妄,后来就归死人那里去了。 This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead. This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead. This is evil in all things which are done under the sun: that there is one fate for all, and the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; while they have life their hearts are foolish, and after that--to the dead. 【传9:4】 与一切活人相连的,那人还有指望。因为活着的狗,比死了的狮子更强。 Anyone who is among the living has hope -even a live dog is better off than a dead lion! For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. For him who is joined to all the living there is hope; a living dog is better than a dead lion. 【传9:5】 活着的人,知道必死。死了的人,毫无所知。也不再得赏赐,他们的名无人记念。 For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even the memory of them is forgotten. For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. The living are conscious that death will come to them, but the dead are not conscious of anything, and they no longer have a reward, because there is no memory of them. 【传9:6】 他们的爱,他们的恨,他们的嫉妒,早都消灭了。在日光之下所行的一切事上,他们永不再有分了。 Their love, their hate and their jealousy have long since vanished; never again will they have a part in anything that happens under the sun. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. Their love and their hate and their envy are now ended; and they have no longer a part for ever in anything which is done under the sun. 【传9:7】 你只管去欢欢喜喜吃你的饭。心中快乐喝你的酒。因为神已经悦纳你的作为。 Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for it is now that God favors what you do. Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works. Come, take your bread with joy, and your wine with a glad heart. God has taken pleasure in your works. 【传9:8】 你的衣服当时常洁白。你头上也不要缺少膏油。 Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil. Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment. Let your clothing be white at all times, and let not your head be without oil. 【传9:9】 在你一生虚空的年日,就是神赐你在日光之下虚空的年日,当同你所爱的妻,快活度日。因为那是你生前,在日光之下劳碌的事上所得的分。 Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun- all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun. Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun. Have joy with the woman of your love all the days of your foolish life which he gives you under the sun. Because that is your part in life and in your work which you do under the sun. 【传9:10】 凡你手所当作的事,要尽力去作。因为在你所必去的阴间,没有工作,没有谋算,没有知识,也没有智慧。 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom. Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. Whatever comes to your hand to do with all your power, do it because there is no work, or thought, or knowledge, or wisdom in the place of the dead to which you are going. 【传9:11】 我又转念,见日光之下,快跑的未必能赢,力战的未必得胜,智慧的未必得粮食,明哲的未必得赀财,灵巧的未必得喜悦。所临到众人的,是在乎当时的机会。 I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all. I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. And again I saw under the sun that the reward goes not to him who is quick, or the fruits of war to the strong; and there is no bread for the wise, or wealth for men of learning, or respect for those who have knowledge; but time and chance come to all. 【传9:12】 原来人也不知道自己的定期。鱼被恶网圈住,鸟被网罗捉住,祸患忽然临到的时候,世人陷在其中,也是如此。 Moreover, no man knows when his hour will come: As fish are caught in a cruel net, or birds are taken in a snare, so men are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them. For man also knoweth not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them. Even man has no knowledge of his time; like fishes taken in an evil net, or like birds taken by deceit, are the sons of men taken in an evil time when it comes suddenly on them. |

Then I said, Wisdom is better than strength, but the poor man's wisdom is not respected, and his words are not given a hearing. 【传9:17】 宁可在安静之中听智慧人的言语,不听掌管愚昧人的喊声。 The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fools. The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. The words of the wise which come quietly to the ear are noted more than the cry of a ruler among the foolish. 【传9:18】 智慧胜过打仗的兵器。但一个罪人,能败坏许多善事。 Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good. Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good. Wisdom is better than instruments of war, but one sinner is the destruction of much good. 【传10:1】 死苍蝇,使作香的膏油发出臭气。这样,一点愚昧,也能败坏智慧和尊荣。 As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor. Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour. Dead flies make the oil of the perfumer give out an evil smell; more valued is a little wisdom than the great glory of the foolish. 【传10:2】 智慧人的心居右。愚昧人的心居左。 The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left. A wise man's heart is at his right hand; but a fool's heart at his left. The heart of the wise man goes in the right direction; but the heart of a foolish man in the wrong. 【传10:3】 并且愚昧人行路,显出无知。对众人说,他是愚昧人。 Even as he walks along the road, the fool lacks sense and shows everyone how stupid he is. Yea also, when he that is a fool walketh by the way, his wisdom faileth him, and he saith to every one that he is a fool. And when the foolish man is walking in the way, he has no sense and lets everyone see that he is foolish. 【传10:4】 掌权者的心,若向你发怒,不要离开你的本位,因为柔和能免大过。 If a ruler's anger rises against you, do not leave your post; calmness can lay great errors to rest. If the spirit of the ruler rise up against thee, leave not thy place; for yielding pacifieth great offences. If the wrath of the ruler is against you, keep in your place; in him who keeps quiet even great sins may be overlooked. 【传10:5】 我见日光之下,有一件祸患,似乎出于掌权的错误, There is an evil I have seen under the sun, the sort of error that arises from a ruler: There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler: There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, like an error which comes by chance from a ruler: 【传10:6】 就是愚昧人立在高位。富足人坐在低位。 Fools are put in many high positions, while the rich occupy the low ones. Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place. The foolish are placed in high positions, but men of wealth are kept low. 【传10:7】 我见过仆人骑马,王子像仆人在地上步行。 I have seen slaves on horseback, while princes go on foot like slaves. I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth. I have seen servants on horses, and rulers walking on the earth as servants. 【传10:8】 挖陷坑的,自己必掉在其中。拆墙垣的,必为蛇所咬。 Whoever digs a pit may fall into it; whoever breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake. He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him. He who makes a hole for others will himself go into it, and for him who makes a hole through a wall the bite of a snake will be a punishment. 【传10:9】 凿开(或作挪移)石头的,必受损伤。劈开木头的,必遭危险。 Whoever quarries stones may be injured by them; whoever splits logs may be endangered by them. Whoso removeth stones shall be hurt therewith; and he that cleaveth wood shall be endangered thereby. He who gets out stones from the earth will be damaged by them, and in the cutting of wood there is danger. 【传10:10】 铁器钝了,若不将刃磨快,就必多费气力。但得智慧指教,便有益处。 If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed but skill will bring success. If the iron be blunt, and he do not whet the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom is profitable to direct. If the iron has no edge, and he does not make it sharp, then he has to put out more strength; but wisdom makes things go well. 【传10:11】 未行法术以先,蛇若咬人,后行法术也是无益。 If a snake bites before it is charmed, there is no profit for the charmer. Surely the serpent will bite without enchantment; and a babbler is no better. If a snake gives a bite before the word of power is said, then there is no longer any use in the word of power. 【传10:12】 智慧人的口,说出恩言。愚昧人的嘴,吞灭自己。 Words from a wise man's mouth are gracious, but a fool is consumed by his own lips. The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. The words of a wise man's mouth are sweet to all, but the lips of a foolish man are his destruction. 【传10:13】 他口中的言语,起头是愚昧。他话的末尾,是奸恶的狂妄。 At the beginning his words are folly; at the end they are wicked madness- The beginning of the words of his mouth is foolishness: and the end of his talk is mischievous madness. The first words of his mouth are foolish, and the end of his talk is evil crime. 【传10:14】 愚昧人多有言语,人却不知将来有什么事。他身后的事,谁能告诉他呢? and the fool multiplies words. No one knows what is coming- who can tell him what will happen after him? A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him? The foolish are full of words; man has no knowledge of what will be; and who is able to say what will be after him? 【传10:15】 凡愚昧人,他的劳碌使自己困乏。因为连进城的路他也不知道。 A fool's work wearies him; he does not know the way to town. The labour of the foolish wearieth every one of them, because he knoweth not how to go to the city. The work of the foolish will be a weariness to him, because he has no knowledge of the way to the town. 【传10:16】 邦国阿,你的王若是孩童,你的群臣早晨宴乐,你就有祸了。 Woe to you, O land whose king was a servant and whose princes feast in the morning. Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning! Unhappy is the land whose king is a boy, and whose rulers are feasting in the morning. 【传10:17】 邦国阿,你的王若是贵胄之子,你的群臣按时吃喝,为要补力,不为酒醉,你就有福了。 Blessed are you, O land whose king is of noble birth and whose princes eat at a proper time- for strength and not for drunkenness. Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness! Happy is the land whose ruler is of noble birth, and whose chiefs take food at the right time, for strength and not for feasting. 【传10:18】 因人懒惰,房顶塌下。因人手懒,房屋滴漏。 If a man is lazy, the rafters sag; if his hands are idle, the house leaks. By much slothfulness the building decayeth; and through idleness of the hands the house droppeth through. When no work is done the roof goes in, and when the hands do nothing water comes into the house. 【传10:19】 设摆筵席,是为喜笑。酒能使人快活,钱能叫万事应心。 A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes life merry, but money is the answer for everything. A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all things. A feast is for laughing, and wine makes glad the heart; but by the one and the other money is wasted. 【传10:20】 你不可咒诅君王,也不可心怀此念。在你卧房也不可咒诅富户。因为空中的鸟,必传扬这声音。有翅膀的,也必述说这事。 Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird of the air may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say. Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter. 【传11:1】 当将你的粮食撒在水面,因为日久必能得着。 Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again. Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Give a part to seven or even to eight, because you have no knowledge of the evil which will be on the earth. 【传11:3】 云若满了雨,就必倾倒在地上。树若向南倒,或向北倒,树倒在何处,就存在何处。 If clouds are full of water, they pour rain upon the earth. Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there will it lie. If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be. If the clouds are full of rain, they send it down on the earth; and if a tree comes down to the south, or the north, in whatever place it comes down, there it will be. 【传11:4】 看风的必不撒种。望云的必不收割。 Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap. He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. He who is watching the wind will not get the seed planted, and he who is looking at the clouds will not get in the grain. 【传11:5】 风从何道来,骨头在怀孕妇人的胎中如何长成,你尚且不得知道,这样,行万事之神的作为,你更不得知道。 As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother's womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things. As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. As you have no knowledge of the way of the wind, or of the growth of the bones in the body of her who is with child, even so you have no knowledge of the works of God who has made all. 【传11:6】 早晨要撒你的种,晚上也不要歇你的手,因为你不知道哪一样发旺,或是早撒的,或是晚撒的,或是两样都好。 Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well. In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good. In the morning put your seed into the earth, and till the evening let not your hand be at rest; because you are not certain which will do well, this or that--or if the two will be equally good. 【传11:7】 光本是佳美的,眼见日光也是可悦的。 Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun. Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun: Truly the light is sweet, and it is good for the eyes to see the sun. 【传11:8】 人活多年,就当快乐多年。然而也当想到黑暗的日子,因为这日子必多,所要来的都是虚空。 However many years a man may live, let him enjoy them all. But let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. Everything to come is meaningless. But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity. But even if a man's life is long and he has joy in all his years, let him keep in mind the dark days, because they will be great in number. Whatever may come is to no purpose. 【传11:9】 少年人哪,你在幼年时当快乐。在幼年的日子,使你的心欢畅,行你心所愿行的,看你眼所爱看的,却要知道,为这一切的事,神必审问你。 Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment. Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment. So put away trouble from your heart, and sorrow from your flesh; because the early years and the best years are to no purpose. 【传12:1】 你趁着年幼,衰败的日子尚未来到,就是你所说,我毫无喜乐的那些年日未曾临近之先,当记念造你的主。 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, 'I find no pleasure in them'- Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them; Let your mind be turned to your Maker in the days of your strength, while the evil days come not, and the years are far away when you will say, I have no pleasure in them; 【传12:2】 不要等到日头,光明,月亮,星宿,变为黑暗,雨后云彩反回, before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain; While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain: While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, are not dark, and the clouds come not back after the rain; 【传12:3】 看守房屋的发颤,有力的屈身,推磨的稀少就止息,从窗户往外看的都昏暗, when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows grow dim; In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, |

Then man goes to his eternal home and mourners go about the streets. Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets: And he is in fear of that which is high, and danger is in the road, and the tree is white with flower, and the least thing is a weight, and desire is at an end, because man goes to his last resting-place, and those who are sorrowing are in the streets; 【传12:6】 银链折断,金罐破裂,瓶子在泉旁损坏,水轮在井口破烂, Remember him-before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken; before the pitcher is shattered at the spring, or the wheel broken at the well, Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. Before ever the silver cord is cut, or the vessel of gold is broken, or the pot is broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the water-hole; 【传12:7】 尘土仍归于地,灵仍归于赐灵的神。 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. And the dust goes back to the earth as it was, and the spirit goes back to God who gave it. 【传12:8】 传道者说,虚空的虚空,凡事都是虚空。 'Meaningless! Meaningless!' says the Teacher. 'Everything is meaningless!' Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity. All things are to no purpose, says the Preacher, all is to no purpose. 【传12:9】 再者,传道者因有智慧,仍将知识教训众人。又默想,又考查,又陈说许多箴言。 Not only was the Teacher wise, but also he imparted knowledge to the people. He pondered and searched out and set in order many proverbs. And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs. And because the Preacher was wise he still gave the people knowledge; searching out, testing, and putting in order a great number of wise sayings. 【传12:10】 传道者专心寻求可喜悦的言语,是凭正直写的诚实话。 The Teacher searched to find just the right words, and what he wrote was upright and true. The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth. The Preacher made search for words which were pleasing, but his writing was in words upright and true. 【传12:11】 智慧人的言语,好像刺棍。会中之师的言语,又像钉稳的钉子。都是一个牧者所赐的。 The words of the wise are like goads, their collected sayings like firmly embedded nails-given by one Shepherd. The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd. The words of the wise are pointed, and sayings grouped together are like nails fixed with a hammer; they are given by one guide. 【传12:12】 我儿,还有一层,你当受劝戒。着书多,没有穷尽。读书多,身体疲倦。 Be warned, my son, of anything in addition to them. Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body. And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh. And further, my son, take note of this: of the making of books there is no end, and much learning is a weariness to the flesh. 【传12:13】 这些事都已听见了。总意就是敬畏神,谨守他的诫命,这是人所当尽的本分。(或作这是众人的本分) Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. This is the last word. All has been said. Have fear of God and keep his laws; because this is right for every man. 【传12:14】 因为人所作的事,连一切隐藏的事,无论是善是恶,神都必审问。 For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. God will be judge of every work, with every secret thing, good or evil. |
