| Positrons are extremely sensitive to detect the micro-defects, which is an advantage brought by its annihilation. The de Broglie wavelength of heated positrons would be normally tens angstroms. The positrons could be considered as a wave sphere with a diameter of several tens times important than the lattice constant of the material, and their average diffusion length could reach 100 to 200 nm before their annihilation. Therefore, before the annihilation, a positron could sweep a volume of 10E8 angstrom cube, that usually contains 107 - 108 ions or atoms. Hardly a vacancy was detected when the positron could be captured by it. |
