International Applicants — Postgraduate Coursework and Research Awards 8.1 International applicants whose first language is English will be deemed to have met English language proficiency requirement if they have graduated from a recognised degree program at an accredited university at which English is the primary language of instruction and assessment in the program undertaken. 8.2 Except where program rules require a higher standard, international applicants whose first language is not English and who have achieved at least 6.5 overall and 6.0 in the writing test of IELTS (or equivalent) will be accepted as having met the University's minimum English language proficiency requirements. The English Proficiency Standards Table (Section 12) provides details of test results that will be accepted as having met the University's minimum English language proficiency requirements for postgraduate coursework and research award students. 8.3 International applicants whose first language is not English may be deemed to have met the English language requirements if they can provide the University of Queensland with evidence of study in a recognised degree program undertaken for two years in the five years prior to commencement at UQ at an accredited University at which English is the primary language of instruction and assessment in the program undertaken. Applicants whose first language is not English and have been resident in a country for 10 years or more where English is the principal language or can provide evidence of work in an English speaking professional environment for a sustained period may be deemed to have fulfilled the University's English language proficiency requirements.
